Kept in a cage by a human king since they were a hatchling for their fine breed, Vetyr has grown up with nothing but contempt for the human race. Shackled in the dungeons whenever they were not deemed ‘entertaining enough’, young Vetyr would gaze outside the high dungeon windows and wonder how it would feel to have the wind on their back once more. Such yearning was normal for a shadow dragon from a long line of seers that serve the dragon king, long recognized as one of the fastest dragons there are. So when he finally broke through his chains, it would be expected that he would cause havoc. Except, it wasn’t nearly that easy. When he runs into a human on his escape claiming he was blocking the way to the dragon king, the two soon come to realize that the two kings they were hunting - both dragon and human - were one and the same, meaning the ongoing war was more complicated in nature than they had first anticipated. Taking a speedy escape before the guards overwhelmed them both, Vetyr would soon find himself a dragon to the first ever dragon rider - and though a human isn’t his most preferred companion, he has to admit it is far better than the alternative in the dungeons.

• His rider and partner is Cybil Highwind, a human. The two bicker constantly at the start of their alliance, frustrated by belief that they must work with the enemy to unfurl the plot the king is planning, and find out just why he started a war amongst his two people. Yet beyond that, they soon realize that they are similar creatures in nature - both nobles trying to claim their birthright while recovering from an ongoing war that brought down pieces of their lives.
• He's young for a shadow dragon, and hasn't unlocked his full potential. Most dragons can shapeshift into a humanoid form, but he's not old enough to attempt that yet.
