About

flustered easily • kind • gentle • level headed

Tyler’s quirk is called Pins and Needles, it allows him to shoot bone shards the size of fine sewing needles out of his pores, excluding on his hands, face, feet, and scalp. Due to the constant need of remodeling of his bones, his body has an extremely fast healing time. Though, he scars easily, so he has hundreds of tiny scars all over his body from the nature of his quirk. If he overuses his quirk, he can be left with hundreds of damaged and splintered bones and/or deep cuts or gashes. He has an iron will though, and if this happens he’ll usually force himself to push through it, he has in the past.

The large scar on Tyler’s collarbone and the one on his cheek are from one said instance, which lead to a deep wound on his clavicle that he didn’t let heal fully, so it left a much larger scar than usual. The scar on his forehead is from an incident that happened with his mother, in which she dropped him down the stairs as a child while intoxicated. The one on his eye was caused by his quirk manifestation, in which millions of small bone shards shot out in all directions and he tried to guard his face, but instead sent the projectiles straight towards his eye.

Tyler was adopted by his grandmother as an adolescent, around 11, when his mother, who had him through a teen pregnancy, was arrested for drug trafficking. He never knew his father, but is determined to find him one day and give him a good slap in the face for not raising him. He was raised in the U.S. until his grandmother adopted him, which meant moving to Japan. His grandfather was in the military and was stationed there with his wife when he passed away, so Tyler’s grandma stays there. Tyler had a strong distaste for his mother, and does everything in his power to ensure he doesn’t end up like her. His grandma is the sweetest woman you will ever meet, and she’s a little senile. She calls Tyler “Komi,” because she thinks Tyler is his uncle, her son, who died as a young adult after becoming a hero. He takes care of his grandmother, and loves her with all his heart. He has a huge heart and the softest personality, despite his quirk and physique portraying otherwise. He is willing to stick up for anything he feels passionate about, people he cares for, etc. He often volunteers and donates, because he wants kids to have a good experience in life.

School and Herosim

Tyler had met Minu when they were both in elementary school, probably around 2nd grade. Minu was very extroverted like she always is, and Tyler was the shy new kid. She thought his horns were really cool, so she quickly introduced herself and her brother. Tyler only spoke English at the time, but Minu had been brought up in a multilingual home, so she knew enough English to convey what she meant. Tyler recalls going home after school that day and excitedly telling his grandma each event of the day in detail. He had made his first two friends in Japan, even though he didn’t speak the native language. He likes to joke that Minu is the reason he picked up Japanese (and a bit of French) so quickly, because she was just so talkative as a kid. Minu desperately wanted to become a hero, and she encouraged Tyler to do so as well. He hadn’t even considered that before, but the more he heard about it the more he started to see it as a plausible career.

He applied to both Shikestu and U.A for his first year, and ended up going to Shiketsu until his third year when he transferred to U.A. When he was chosen to be an honor student, he was assigned a younger student to follow him around for a few days. This younger student was Kirishima, and he soon found him so fascinating that he continued to follow him around even after his project was finished. He soon grew to love Eijiro, and became just like his big brother, defending him from people he saw as a threat. Minu was introduced to Eijiro when she became the 1A T.A, and found it really cute that Eijiro and Tyler had already become so close. Minu has always been there for Tyler, since they met as kids when he was visiting his grandparents over the summers. She was there when he was taken into custody by the state, and he was there when Minu’s parents divorced. Minu and Tyler are practically inseparable, with Minu being the first person Tyler came out to. He was so scared that she'd hate him or see him differently, but Minu just smiled and said "Yeah, I know," grabbed his face and hugged him. Tyler is so thankful to Minu for everything she does for him, she's been the reason he's wanted to keep helping people and become a hero. Tyler sidekicks under Death Arms, because he feels his quirk would really be of use in the type of hero work he does. Death Arms has been a big part in helping Tyler understand what it really means to be a hero and actually save people.

With Minu

As they get older, Tyler and Minu start to gradually develop feelings for each other. It’s been apparent to everyone around them, but throughout their whole lives they’ve been nothing more than friends. Tyler is a constant fixture at the Kumo household, with him being basically just another one of the siblings. He helps with groceries, babysitting, and cleaning up around the house when he can. He, unlike Minu, is an amazing cook, so the kids are very accepting of him making food, and he takes great pride in this. He and Minu actually get together through a joke, people had thought they were together since forever, so Minu said something along the lines of, “What if we actually dated?” and they did. Then they got married, had kids, the whole shebang.

Masaki KumoBros
Masaki and Tyler are bros. Almost literally, in the future they are brothers in law. Tyler has been friends with Masaki as long as he has been with Minu, however they aren’t nearly as close. He and Masaki have a few friends in common as well, so they tend to hang out usually together. Masaki is probably his closest guy friend, so when Minu isn’t available he will most likely hang out with Masaki. They play video games and sometimes make bead bracelets, believe it or not, they’re both pretty crafty. They spot each other at the gym sometimes as well, which commonly comes with a harsh nudge on the arm and a, “Dude, that’s my sister.” when Tyler is caught staring.
