He was born in Tulor Woods and brought home to see his father. The family briefly stayed in Forbidden Ruins before they decided to leave for Dark Woods, his father's homelands. Since then, Carad has been exploring every inch of Dark Woods, learning as much as he possibly can, quizzing the various herd members so long as they can stand it, and basically being the inquisitive little colt he is. As he grows older, he sneaks out of Dark Woods frequently to explore the Free lands, unable to ignore his curiosity. He also hangs out with his cousin, Radovan, and Sorilea. During one of his travels to the Free lands he meets a cambion colt named Daelvin.

As the dawn of his second year approaches, Caradhras finds himself becoming more restless than ever. He feels stifled in Dark Woods by all of the people and by his protective parents. He eventually makes the decision to leave Dark Woods in an attempt to find himself away from his family and free to explore at his own pace. He encounters Nalyada in his first venture as a wanderer. They have a brief conversation before he leaves Wild Equines.
