When Ixie was about one year old, her mom left her and her dad forever. All she left behind was Ixie's newly painted room, which had rainbows everywhere, and her name. She took half of her parent's savings and just disappeared off the face of the earth. Ixie's dad tried looking for her, since he had no idea why she would have left, but he never found even the slightest trace of her. As Ixie grew up, her dad tried to make sure she knew it wasn't her fault. Her mom probably had something she needed to do, he'd say. But his insistence on it not being her fault only worked for a while--once she was old enough, she started to question whether he actually believed it or not. Ixie holds rainbows and the few memories she has of her mother close to her, but she knows she can't replace her mother in her dad's heart.

School Life

Ixie has always been in remedial English classes. They usually went by different names, but she always saw them for what they were. She hated that she was so bad at reading, because she really did love to learn. But she hated the way the teachers of those classes treated her even more. At best, they were apathetic. At worst, they were usually pretty patronizing. Once, she had to give a presentation on what career she wanted to go into after high school. She'd been doing a lot better in class at the time, so she said she wanted to be an English teacher. The teacher didn't say anything until after class, when she pulled Ixie aside and told her that an English teacher probably wasn't "the right fit" for her, and maybe she'd be better at being a math or art teacher. Ixie never really got over it, so she only barely tries in her English classes now. She's had a couple of friends, but most of them are put off either by her personality (dark and gloomy, yet slightly hyper,) or by her compulsive lying. Her dad has gotten called to the school a number of times for her lying, but they've never had the time, energy, or money to take her to a psychiatrist.

Personal Life

Ixie's dad drinks on the weekends. Probably to try and get over some of the stress of work and raising her on his own. But it has made the neighbors, who live in a duplex with Ixie and her dad, a bit worried. They used to hear her crying through the walls, and they called the police once to make sure she was okay. She'd told them she was fine, and she was horrified to find out they'd thought her dad was hurting her. He'd never do that--he wasn't the best dad in the world all the time, but he'd never do that. Now, she just tries to keep her crying as quiet as possible, since it's usually about school stuff. Or sometimes, she just tries to throw herself into running. She used to be one of the best runners in her PE class at school, but something happened. She doesn't have to take PE classes anymore, thank goodness. When she's not running or at home, she's usually just sitting on the end of the pier in their small town, trying to skip rocks on the ocean. It's not very easy, because usually a wave hits the rock before it can get very far, but it's kind of calming to try to do anyway.
