I speak with a distinctive drawl or accent common to my class. She's got a very strong drawl typical of the farmers of the Rallei province.

Ideals

A labor of love is a purpose and meaning. She takes great pride in all of her work, and tries to do her best at whatever the task in front of her may be.

Bonds

I want to become the biggest or best example of my profession to prove that I am the best! She has a pretty strong competitive streak, surprisingly. Proving herself matters a lot to her.

Flaws

I am absurdly innocent. With the upbringing she'd had, she could easily be considered... sheltered. She's gullible, naive, and almost childlike at times. The world hasn't made a great impact on her yet.

About

Nerina is a very kind, happy person — when life is kind to you, it's awfully easy to choose kindness towards others. Since moving to Kalostan, she's had it good: no one to stop her from playing her lute, regular meals through the school, and best of all, ABSOLUTELY no farm work. She's come out of her shell in a major way. She's quick to befriend anyone who can withstand her chatter for more than a few minutes, and always happy to slow down for those who can't. Creative, helpful, and fun, she's mildly popular with her (mostly younger) classmates in that "cool older kid" way. At times, her innate ability to make friends with damn near anything breathing can turn sour, festering into anxious people-pleasing. She also has a fairly quick temper, but she'll forgive and forget. Her simple energy for life makes her a bit impulsive, as well. She often finds herself (in hindsight) regretting snap judgements.

PRELUDE

Cathryn Nerina Thefes, named as such by her traditionalist parents, doesn't have all that much history... yet. Indeed, this is one of her many goals: to have one of the coolest life stories ever recorded. And it will be recorded. (That's another goal.) She plans to visit as many realms as she can along her way!

Preceding her discovery by the realm's magical colleges, Nerina grew up on a Ralleian sustenance farm. Her parents shared a unique distaste for music and "frivolity", and beyond her letters and counting up to ten, her education went by the wayside as she was taught instead the ways of the plow. She loved the farm animals, and spent many happy hours sneaking off to read with the barn cats or the sheepdogs. Nerina's older sister and the rest of her family thought she was wasting her time... until they realized that she had a unique ability to becalm animals. Her father brought her to the market every once in a while, and her ability was reported to the Council accordingly.

FUGUE

The grace with which Minerva Belrose descended upon the Thefes estate surpassed anything Nerina had ever imagined in her life. She found herself swept up in the kind of adventure she'd been hoping to find for her entire life as the High Mage of Enchantment informed her parents that she had the potential for magical aptitude, and she gleefully packed her things (and her favorite kitten) and rolled out. The next two days were a dazzling blur of extravagance, cities with more people than she'd ever imagined, and life-changing events... but she settled in quite well at school! She was placed in a lower level during basic, but she took it in stride and befriended many of her other classmates. She decided early on to never speak of her home, instead letting them believe that she hailed from Rallei Proper. In time, she settled on entering bardic college.

The Corrian attacks escaped her notice, secured as she'd been in the capitol's finest schools. It wasn't until she met Theobald MacAltus, a 35-year-old refugee and her new roommate on her school funded off-campus digs, that she fully understood the extent of the damage they'd done. Theo and Nerina took a quick liking to each other, and became fast friends. They had some almost buddy comedy level hijinks together, but one day, she awoke to find him gone, with signs of a struggle. She chased him all the way to the Kaldonus border.
