Story

"you'll be safer with them," his parents had promised as they dragged a confused mateo away from his home. he can still remember their words, crystal clear, as if had all happened just the day before. "the fatui said they'll take you in and raise you as their own, away from this place. it's better." he had never forgotten it during his training, or on his missions. not ever, so that if he can come across the faces he's already long forgotten, he can tell them about his story.

the fatui are not the forgiving type. they take in many, but only a few survive, and with those rare few almost all are forced upon fake visions to prove themselves, only culling the ranks further. mateo isn't exactly a rookie, but he's lived his entire life in service of the snezhaya, forgetting the warm summers of his youth; now, he's only interested in following orders and making it out alive.

stoic and persevering, mateo is a fatui agent who simply just wants to keep breathing. he follows his orders to the T, whether that means stealing information or killing people or infiltrating a location. he's picked up a lot of spy techniques from his superiors, though carries with him a sort of guilessness; he's always impressively earnest, though awkward, and has the tendency to plan without ever considering the consequences or feelings of others.
