story
Rubes was made from a kindergarten, but was overcooked. The overcooking made him a bit taller than the average Ruby, and resulted him in being blind. His eyes are permanently closed. The Diamond he was supposed to be with was considered his blindness rendering him worthless, so she put him and Green Star Sapphire on the gem market. It was either that or be shattered for being defective. He was bought along with Sapphire when the master they were under was going to shatter them, but was persuaded by Orlove's vast riches to hand them over to him instead.
