Karlius's Links
He's only known Fen for a few hours at this point, and they have already annoyed the hell out of him. His biggest pet peeves are to have his space intruded upon, and to have people watching him draw. Their first impression on him wasn't at all the greatest, but so was everyone else's. So hopefully, sometime in the future, he'll grow to like them.
Karlius has a very surprising respect for Ripley, one he doesn't have for anyone else in the Paw Patrol quite yet. He, for a lack of a better word, admires her ability to do her own thing without question and without any need for much help. He likes that she is at least as honest as she can be given the odd circumstances, and keeps a level head despite the constant annoyances from their party. Karlius and Ripley haven't talked much, but she would be the one he'd talk to on his own accord.
It appears he's made the right decision, in his eyes. Ripley has grown to be someone Karlius can feel mostly safe with- more than he can say for almost everyone else in the party. He acknowledges that she must have constantly conflicting emotions, he knows how it feels. To be unsure whether or not questioning your family is right. To be unsure if everything they're doing is for your own protection, or if it's for theirs. It took him a while to come to peace with his decision, and he only wants the best for Ripley, but he wants to give her the time, space, and care that he wish he had, so she can make the decision for herself.
Although trust is not something that comes easily to Ripley outside of her family, Ripley has grown to trust Karlius and truly considers him a friend at this point. The fact that he has taken the time to check up on her on multiple occasions has made a huge impact on her, and she is always extremely grateful whenever it happens. Particularly, she doesn't know where she would be if he hadn't come to her the night that Tarrok was kidnapped. Truthfully, Ripley finds Karlius to be someone who she can let her guard down around, and she hopes that they're able to spend more time with one another in the future. She hopes to return the level of care he's extended to her and will definitely do what she can to help him.
The casual and obviously deceivingly-smooth demeanor of Seychal honestly intrigued Karlius at first, he couldn't help but think that she was going to be a very interesting person to be around. And he was right, to an extent. He found the growing secrets in the group comical, almost like he was watching a cheesy soap opera while Seychal was the main antagonist in plain sight, but no one believed it. After the whole Sneeple incident, he's growing tired of everyone's blind faith in each other, and doesn't find Seychal's continuous mysteries that charming anymore, but he will continue to find it interesting in how far things will go.
Well. I'm sure you won't miss me, prince. Hope Old Tess can help you with whatever it is you needed.
Out of everyone in the Paw Patrol, Tarrok has grown to be the only person that Karlius would say he explicitly dislikes. Karlius loves a good story, full of cunning deception and intrigue, but when it's done in an intellectual and thought-out manner. He finds Tarrok's frequent contradicting statements annoying, but finds it very amusing to keep pointing it out to see how they will try and cover their ass. Karlius often wonders if he ever lacks empathy for others too much, but when he remembers Tarrok, he thinks he's doing just fine.
I don't understand why Karlius is here. Clearly he's very smart. He should know better than to get mixed up in my family's business. I think it would be easier for him to go home. He doesn't seem to like me very much, but that's fine. I don't like him, either, and I'll be happy to see the last of him when this mission is over. The only good thing Karlius has done for this group is make my sister happy. Other than that... I wouldn't mind if he picked up and left and never came back.
Karlius thought he was done with being around overbearing, pushy parents by now, but I guess he was wrong. He knows that Marnie, somewhere, deep down, has everyone's interest at heart, but he can't seem to help but get extremely irritated whenever she opens her mouth for any reason. He found it funny at first, how insanely impulsive and unnecessarily destructive she is, since it just added to the drama and made things interesting. But it got pretty old pretty fast. He tries to keep up some semblance of politeness when talking to her, but there has very rarely been an instance recently when they've talked where he hasn't been snappy in some way or another.
It's annoying. Extremely infuriating, even, how similar Marnie reminds Karlius of his own parents. That has been increasingly clear to him the more he spends time with the cleric. The complete ignorance to reality when making her decisions is uncanny. It's almost nostalgic, in a way, when it's not irritating beyond belief. It's very hard to say what Karlius's exact feelings are toward Marnie as of currently, because not even Karlius is sure either. He almost feels like he has some sort of responsibility to lead her in the right direction; to guide her stubbornness in a way that will benefit the group, but he is much too tired to even attempt. His parents never listened to him when he tried to be reasonable, why would Marnie listen now?
Marnie has taken a particular shine to Karlius, despite their clumsy beginnings and meetings with each other. While she had originally thought him to be a little harsh or even cynical, she’s come to appreciate those aspects of him. There’s more to the firbolg than she realizes and if she wants to get to know him better, only her patience and respect for boundaries is required. Admittedly not her strongest suite, but she tries her best regardless. She still makes mistakes and Karlius makes it quite clear and known when it happens, but it emboldens her to keep learning and trying. Not that she expects them to be best of friends by the end of the journey, but she’ll continue to clumsily bond with him for the sake of this funny little relationship they’ve built with each other.
Along with Ripley, Aldin is someone on the more positive side of Karlius's list. Although he thinks that Aldin is a bit odd and child-like, he thinks that they're genuine and in a similar position as he is; Just a person trying to get by. He finds their ability to change form and conjure creatures very interesting, even though some of their choices of form sometimes is not the most helpful. Karlius wouldn't mind getting to know them better, one on one, instead of being around the group.
And that has certainly paid off. Karlius can't help but think that he would have just disappeared in the night one of these days if it wasn't for Aldin tethering him still to this group. Is it possible to have grown so attached so quickly? Is it even healthy? Regardless, they are the one thing keeping Karlius sane for the time being, and is constantly able to make him smile in the oddest of occurrences. But it feels wonderful.
Karlius has always been a withdrawn figure in the party, and I've tried my best to mend that distance. Sometimes it's little things, like giving him gifts and turning into fruit bats, and sometimes it's trying to save his life. I was really surprised I was invited to his home along with Ripley, but I'm incredibly glad that I accepted. Beneath the exterior is one of the most well-grounded characters in our party, and his understanding of serenity and reflection match no other. He even helped me find a creative way of keeping earth beneath my fingers through sculpting. As... other friends become increasingly bitter, I find Karlius to be an ever-growing rock in my relationships, and I would like to be the same for him.
Another addition to the group. Interesting. With how tense things have been in "Paw Patrol" thusfar, and especially as of late, Karlius is more surprised than anything that the big, gloomy, cult follower Tarrok has allowed someone else to enter the fray. His patience is surely running short when it comes to meeting new people, and hearing questions that the answers seem painfully obvious to him. But, overall, just another person who has secrets is bound to annoy him immediately. But, with time, and great patience, anything can happen.
Karlius is...I guess you'd call it a little off-putting. I get that he says he's standoffish with everyone, and I mean, I've certainly seen him act that way with Marnie, but I can tell there are people in this group that he's close to. I dunno, maybe I'm being oversensitive about it, but I just get the feeling that he doesn't want me here. Or maybe he's the one who doesn't wanna be here and he's taking it out on everyone else? Then again, I've only been with these guys for a few days, so maybe it just needs time or something.
