Lolita

Lolita is a Demon Slayer of the land of Edin.

Demon slayers differ greatly from Demon Hunters. Demon Hunters fancy the act of catching and collecting demons, seeing themselves as law keepers and hosting a 'demon jail' for those that cause trouble in the land. Hunters do not kill even the most vile demon. Every demon deserves a chance at life, for they have gone to great lengths to escape their own world in order to join the land of the living. The hunters will give them life, at the very least, even if its a life behind bars.

Demon Slayers do everything in their power to kill as many demons as they can. They see demons as a plague against their world (and in many ways they are). However they do not differentiate between kindhearted demons and cruel ones, killing either one without so much a thought.

The two kingdoms (Slayers and Hunters) have never seen eye to eye and are constantly at war with one another (and have been on and off, at least 500+ years or so).

Demon Slayers are one of the only few known groups of people that openly practice a 'Religion', in this realm. Though it is common knowledge in this world that 'Gods' do not exist, it is not necessarily a deity that the Slayers worship, but the Shimmering Lights of the afterlife itself. (The shimmering lights is known as Purgatory, but since this is information given by demons, most slayers have elected to ignore it as heresy).

A Grave Mistake...

When Lolita was 7 years old, she made a strange friend within the forest by her village. An unusually beautiful woman who went by the name, Ion. A woman with pointy ears, horns, and the most gorgeous, purple cat eyes the little girl had ever seen!

The woman could make Lolita laugh, feel safe, and lend an ear to listen, when times were tough at home. And times were indeed tough at home.

Lolita's father was a drunk, torn apart by the recent war (between Hunters and Slayers), had never been quite the same as the kind and soft spoken man Lolita once remembered.

Now life at home was loud, scary, and often times painful. Lolita's mother had sunk into the shell of a woman that Lolita could no longer rely on. Her older brother, Markus (14), having once been so close, funny and caring, also distanced himself from the family as time pressured on, turning his back on her to avoid the violent hands of their father, leaving Lolita alone to suffer it all.

Thus, the girl would retreat to the trees, to meet with her pretty friend, sometimes gone the entire day, and only returning well into the night.

Ion would show her around the forest, deeper and further into the trees than Lolita had ever dared go before, but she felt safe with the woman. Ion was tall, she had sharp fingers, and always knew what to do and say to make Lolita smile, even when she was scared or hurt.

As time drew on, however, Ion seemed to be able to pull dark thoughts straight from Lolita's mind. Lolita found herself talking about her darkest secrets. Secrets that she would have never shared otherwise, nor act upon for that matter, but they plagued her mind on the daily.

Thoughts of inflicting the same pain that her father bestowed upon her and the family, and thoughts against her docile mother as well, who never lifted a finger to help Lolita at all. Thoughts of revenge against the other children of the village, the ones that that picked on her, or their parents that turned a blind eye to her bruises. Thoughts against her absent brother as well, who had all but ignored her cries completely.

Of course she would never have acted upon these, she told herself this over and over, and merely used Ion as an outlet to her troubles. She loved Ion, who was such a good listener to these terrible thoughts. She found talking with the woman a warm comfort to her otherwise dreary and anxious home life.

It was not until the moment that Lolita's village was set aflame, the sounds of the screams filled the air, and the hearts of both her parents splayed out within Ion's hands before her, that Lolita realized just what she had done: Welcomed a demon into her life. Even further still, Lolita realized, to her own horror, just how much she liked to hear those screams against the flames, and the lifeless body of her tormentor that the ground now consumed. Was she a demon too?

In an effort to quell the thought that she could be a monster too, Lolita begged at Ion's feet to spare her brother from the wrath she had wished upon him. Knowing that he was a victim in all this too.

Ion, being a demon born of Hell, knew very little of life and human society. She found the little girl's change of tune against her family and village quite fascinating. Something Ion was keen on understanding more of. She spared Markus, and let Lolita know that she would take care of the two of them from now on. Ion would learn much about humans in the coming years. The demoness lead the two children into the forest, leaving the village to burn to the ground.

They would not be seen again for many years to come...

Extras:

- During their time with Ion, Lolita and Markus were trained as something like assassins, or rather 'servants that can kill'.

They did everything Ion asked, no matter the cost or the danger; ranging from petty theft, to entire family massacres, acting at the whim of a demon's request.

Markus in particular grew quite fond of Ion, overly so. Almost as if he was under some spell. Lolita felt herself overcome with a strange, feverous adoration when Ion was fixated on her, making Lolita complacent to Ion's many requests, often murderous ones.

As Lolita grew older however, she found ways to fight it. Whatever this magic was that Ion was using on her, she had somehow gained a grasp on defying it, or perhaps she was becoming immune? After a while, Ion seemed to give up on Lolita and focused this strange magic solely on Markus. Should Lolita continue to rebel against Ion's demands, Ion need simply use Markus to guilt the girl back into place.

As Lolita grew into her teen years, she was immune enough to Ion's enchantment powers, that she began devising a plan to escape from the demon...

- Both Markus and Lolita learned Ion's language fluently (Demon Tongue) - and are perhaps the only humans alive today that know how to read/write/and speak it perfectly.

- It is because Lolita learns how to read demon tongue, that she discovers a book, hidden within a Lord's Keep during one of her 'raids' that Ion had asked of her. The book was full of strange spells and knowledge of the unknown and gave Lolita the chance to fight Ion, in ways she never could before. Lolita kept the book a secret for many months henceforth.

- Lolita is 18 when she finally escapes Lolita. Not just escapes her, but destroys the demon completely (using a particularly malicious spell within the book). Though even to this day, Lolita does not fully grasp what she did to Ion, only that she's gone. Forever. (essentially what she did to Ion was literally destroy her soul. Shattering it into pieces. The demon no longer exists at all. Ion is permanently 'dead'. and is just out there floating in purgatory somewhere...  in many pieces.)

- The moment Lolita destroys Ion, the love spell that Markus was under is lifted, however the damage is done. He had become entirely dependent on her, his body and mind. But for a moment, Lolita thought she had her brother back as he pulled her into an embrace. The happiness this brought was short lived however, when Markus drove a dagger deep into her back. His mind was still Ion's, but clear enough to understand that he had been put under her spell all these years,

He withdrew from a now direly wounded Lolita. Horrified by what had happened (to Ion... to him... to Lolita) after so many years of living in a feverous fog of enchantment, Markus frantically grabbed the magical book that Lolita had used to destroy Ion and fled into the trees, leaving Lolita to bleed out on the ground under the canopy.

- Lolita was near death when she finally crawled her way out of the forest, weak and feverish. Falling at the feet of a couple shocked farmers. They bring her to the nearest city; The Slayer City of Ashra, and makes a full recovery.

From then on, Lolita devotes herself to the way of the Slayers. Vowing to kill any demon she meets, so that no other child will ever go through what she did.

- There is a massive scar on her back where the dagger struck into her. There is also a magic symbol just beneath her eye, that suddenly appeared the day she killed Ion. Lolita makes a note to look at them in the mirror every day, to remind her from where she came, how much she's endured, and how much she's survived.

- Lolita has completely forsaken her brother. She does not see him again for many years, in which her only words to him are, "If I ever see your face again, I will kill you." (he now wears a mask, and she's seen him a few times since... it infuriates her, but she won't go back on her word.)

- Lolita lives her life as lawful good as possible, to the point its a fault.

-  While Lolita carries herself with poised fineness, and her movements in battle are skilled and strategic- there are moments, particularly during intense battles with Hellspawn (demons straight out of Hell, like Ion) that Lolita will lose her composure and become increasingly bloodthirsty, as if losing herself to a rage that has finally been freed from within her. It is best to steer clear of her, friend and foe alike, when she is in this state.

- she loathes demons with a passion. She will kill any that she meets, whether they are kind hearted or not. All demons must die. Many slayers share her sentiment.

Lolita however, lowkey scares her fellow comrades with how merciless she can be.

Some Slayers would not kill a baby/child demon, preferring to mark it, so it will be easily identified later on in it's life, should it be spotted again, but this sentiment is lost on Lolita. She sees a child demon as a future problem, claiming that it will only bring suffering to the people rightfully born of this realm, the longer that it's alive. It is more of a mercy to destroy it while it's young and naïve, rather than let it taste life and grow fond of it.

- with this being said, Lolita is overly protective of human children. Should she see a human child in a poor situation, her kindness is unlike any other. She appears to suddenly become a completely different person to her fellow slayers when a human child has entered the equation.

- Lolita holds a respected position in the High Slayer Council and her abilities as a Slayer are known far and wide, (as well as the blind rage mentioned earlier) (One best not dare mention word of her rage to Lolita herself, as not only will they be met with a dark coldness from thenceforth, but the future of their career as a Slayer will be put in jeopardy as well.

- she detests the way her city claims destruction of forest as 'progressive'. she grew up in a small village and most of her childhood and young adulthood was spent living in the forest. seeing it shrink saddens her; and she can often be found admiring flowers or sitting in silence among the grass or the forest while on her travels
