DUCHESS
Vivian Felicia Castenie Nuumite
(AS OF PE 30)

Viv is the daughter of the (former) duke of the Castenie Duchy, Karina Castenie. Her late brother, Ferris, was also a former duke of the Castenie Duchy.
Viv is currently the wife of Duke Lazuli of the Nuumite Duchy, and has two children, Amethyst & Lapis.

Viv's family life was one that every sane person would consider absolutely horrible. But despite this, Viv loved her family, - she was possibly the only one in her family who did.

Viv and Lazuli's marriage was a political, arranged one. And it had a particularly rocky start.

(OLD PROFILED CONTENT WHILE I WRITE A NEW ONE

She was in a relationship with Prince Aurelia from PE 4-5, she was an obsessive girlfriend to say the least, and when he broke up with her she stalked him for a little while. She was 19-20 at the time.

Viv's family and home life has never been good, her mother is a literal medical definition psychopath and her father never stood up to their mother or did much to prevent her abuse. Ferris and Viv's relationship was far from functional but they were all the other really had and so they had a kind of bond.

(quoting from discord) Her mother was ecstatic to find out she was dating ~a prince~. Though she may have been like "hmm did it have to be Aurelia, couldn't you have gone for one of the more important ones." And that might be something she actually speaks up against her mom about. Like ">:( no Aurelia's perfect!".
Her parents really wanted her and Ferris to win more prestige for them. So when her mom found out Aurelia dumped her she was just like "It's your fault, you should have done better. You let this opportunity go to waste."

I think maybe Viv later gets into another relationship, and this one similarly falls apart. This time though she blames herself instead of looking for someone else to blame. She starts to really internalize all of things her parents and others tell her. "You're a failure. You're a disgrace to the family." Her parents still used that kind of constantly criticizing thing before but as she gets older it really weighs on her. And after that second relationship fell through she kind of just completely gave up resisting her parents, letting them basically decide everything for her.

Viv ended up getting slotted into an arranged marriage with the heir of the neighboring duchy, Lazuli Nuumite. She didn't fight back and was honestly a little hopeful, she figured that maybe if someone else chose a relationship for her it wouldn't got awfully like her previous relationships. This hope appeared to initially be dashed because of Lazuli's apparent lack of interest in her and keeping his distance after they got married. but, here I'll just copy and paste more from discord sdjzh

For their first meeting Lazuli was really anxious and when he's anxious he gets really tense and stern looking. He went in assuming Viv wouldn't actually like him and  was trying to let her know that even though this was an arranged marriage and she was coming to live with him she would have all the freedom in the world and would be safe. But to Viv who was already depressed it just came across like "oh, he doesn't want anything to do with me"

Viv and Lazuli's relationship was wobbly at first. Viv's reputation has not ever been amazing but especially in the years before the arranged marriage it was particularly abysmal. Plenty of gossip of her smashing vases and throwing chairs (and not unfounded gossip). And she's had breakdowns in public a few times. In these past couple years of her life she's kind of retreated from the public a lot, hiding at home and staying quiet. She barely speaks and people are kind of scared to approach her because they're afraid she'll blow up or something.
She does not have a reputation for being very stable. And so Lazuli is a little like "Gosh what am I getting myself into agreeing to this".
She also has the reputation (more stale by this point, it's been a decent amount of time) of her previous relationships. Which all ended because of her obsessive tendencies. Lazuli does not expect her to ever actually love him, he's not jazzed about the idea of his wife never loving him, but he thinks he can be okay with it and doesn't want to force her into anything.
So Lazuli's preconceptions and assumptions about Viv being obsessive and unstable and not likely to ever actually like him shape a lot of how he acts to her. He tries very hard to be compassionate to her and willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but he's still nervous and comes off as tense.
He tries to overcompensate giving her her own space because he doesn't want to come off as trying to limit her or something. But Viv is just a lonely girl pushed past her point of desperation, and is at first just as - if not more - depressed as she was before she married him, because she thinks he doesn't like her and doesn't want anything to do with her. She experiences a lot of anguish when she "realizes" that she's finally gotten married but she won't ever even get any kind of affection out of it(edited)

TLDR: Lazuli doesn't want to make Viv feel trapped and wants her to be comfortable and happy but overcompensates/doesn't realize what she actually needs is just some positive and loving attention and in the process accidentally makes her feel even more alone for a while

But in the end all is okay!

Viv is naturally pretty assertive and headstrong so even though for the first couple months she didn't think Lazuli liked her or wanted to spend time with her she was pretty quick to take action after like, a maid or someone explained to Lazuli a bit more to her and he doesn't actually not want anything to do with her. But she's pretty spontaneous so she just comes in one night and sits on his lap while he's writing a letter or something and Lazuli is just like ???  ówò "wh- what? Uh,, hi??"

Lazuli did actually want to have love in his marriage jfsadh and wanted Viv to like him, but he didn't want to force her into anything so he kept his distance, but after Viv makes the first move he's receptive and ends up very attached to and loving toward her.
