Personification of 'luck' (Choice)
Years of Form 2005 - current
Gender genderfuck (bio. male)
Race deity
Height 6'2 (with heels)
Build: average-to-thin
Mortal "Job": casino proprietress
Playlist 'Providence'

O' Fortuna, renowned owner of the Carousel Casino, notable 'Eccentric Billionaire', and believed head of the Illuminati by a small portion of the internet conspiracy community. As all personifications do, Fortuna lives her life amongst mortals; a broker of sorts for Gods and Humans alike. They say she can get you anything, so long as you're willing to put something truly great on the line...

Fortuna is the sort that attracts all eyes the moment she enters a room, and that is very much by design. 6'2" in heels, always wearing the most overzealous clothes, she aims to confuse the average crowd. O' Fortuna, quite literally holding the confidence of the gods.

She can come off as cold, or cruel, to those who don't know her; but a better word is 'Calculating'. If she's fond of you however- or it suits her purpose- you'll see a side reminiscent of an aunt fussing over their nephew: caring, loud, attentive. But always calculating.

Visual Notes

  • Fortuna's current form is Biologicaly Male, and is flat-chested.
Her image was won from Richard's- then-38-year-old- therapist.
  • Some important iconography is 'Fortuna's Mark': a playing card with one side blank. It's placed upon the visage of those chosen for The Gamble, allowing them a last evening before the ultimate choice is made.
  • For visual information on the Carousel Casino, see here.

Who IS Fortuna?

The God of 'Luck'- or at least, that's what they claim. But a goddess Fortuna is, and even in human guise it is obvious that she is leagues beyond humanity. Where-as most of the personifications blend in with mortals, Fortuna chooses to stick out a tad- 'something something divine judgement, something something challenge their standards' and all that... And in recent decades, Fortuna is the renowned owner of the most exclusive Casino in Las Vegas: The Carousel. The venue lives in the minds of the highest-rollers, yet few dare speak of what's inside, and those who have gone... 'missing'.

Of CEOs, Rich by Blood, and those with too much power to know what to do with, Fortuna invites only the highest of powers: those who have it all and still want more. A perfect 'elite social group' to continue their debauched lifestyles. But any of the casino's regulars knows how the show plays out: the Propietress will occasionally descend upon the showfloor and place a playing card of scarlet & gold upon a chosen individual. That fortunate patron has been granted a chance to win 'what they truly desire'. Or they'll go missing. Despite eagerly awaiting their turns at The Gamble, most have noticed that those who do disappear, and those with eagle eyes notice that a new inhumanly costumed staff-member may turn up a few days later. O' Fortuna, free us of our will.

2002 - Current -- Las Vegas, America

Upon the dawn of the new millenia, Fortuna visited Dick at his request. The other god was often going on about some recent spout of depression, some idea that they- the deities- were all lost beyond help; of course she knew that, she lived with the Personification of the Mind afterall. But this time, Richard might've found a way to 'fix it'. Once again he refused to leave England, so she hopped on a jet and went to go and talk him out of his futile endeavour...

Only to find him in a dusty, damp little room with a quaint, quiet little human. But then the human talked. What an interesting little mortal he was, with his view on the world, and his fractured personalities, and his wonderful ability to say no to even her. Or at least, most of him said no. She flirted with the dissociated system for a while, played with their spirits, explored their mind, and eventually one day with particular wording and a particular alter, she got what she wanted: Yes.

"If you win, you get what your heart most desires. If I win, I get your visage." Apparently Rupert- the most trusting of the Rogers 'siblings'- thought she wanted to borrow their clothes. So when she turned up months later looking identical to their body, James had a breakdown. This didn't bother her in the slightest, and as he began to age, she remained a snapshot of his younger self.

--

Where-as most gods will flee their previous lives upon gaining a new form, to avoid obvious suspicion, Fortuna did not. Despite changing facial features, body type, even her race, she waltzed back to her casino with the same name and the same desires. People questioned it, but this was Fortuna; her legend preceeded her so greatly that people would swear she was magic (or at least rich enough to get the greatest of plastic surgeries). And what with Psyche hijacking their previous form, oh she so looked forward to waving this one in its face...

Continuing on her duties as the Personification of "luck", little changed from her previous life besides her form. The Carousel continued as a luring trap for the highest of powers with the lowest of morals, and she continued on raising her inhereted children and orchestrating her own personal rapture.

  • She sees her undertaking of her Collection as both punishment and saviour, and despite it seeming horrific beyond thoughts, she does actually care for them all deeply. Just, more like cooing a pet. Humans are below her after-all, and they're ever so adorable.
  • Alongside the Collection, she's mother to some of the children left behind by those collected: the Cherubim. Little children raised in the backrooms of the casino, taught to unlearn their societal ways, raised to be their most authentic selves. They're all a little... odd, for obvious reasons, but she's often found cooing over them. Should one wander onto the casino floor, the patrons know they have the right-of-way.
  • Is known to travel to England every half a year or so, visiting the personification of the Weather and- in recent decades- his therapist. It's very much a 'turn up, uproot their life into an unpredicatable few nights of adventure and wild parties, then drop them home like nothing's changed'. And by 'turn up', we mean she'll barge into whatever Richard's doing on the spot. She's utterly terrifying, so no-one's ever stopped her.
  • Made a joke gamble with Richard, that resulted in his name being legally changed to 'Dick Trumbles' for a century. She just thought it was funny.

Psyche // MIND ? ? ? ? ?

Psyche: God of Gods, Complicated beyond Comprehension, a Barely Perceivable Deity that lives in the backroom of the Carousel Casino... and is madly obsessed with Fortuna.

Fortuna is complicated, manipulative, and she plays games so old she doesn't always remember their purpose; she's exactly the sort of person that tantilizes and tortures the Personification of the Mind, and she knows this oh so well. So she'll sit with the god for hours on end, taking turns asking questions in build up to the important one- and when they're so far in, when Psyche is so close to the answer Psyche cares for- she says no. And she leaves.

Psyche gets its fair share of torment in too, however; he knows how to set her off, he knows her fears, and his unanswered questions often play on her mind. It roots itself deep in the places she's buried. Not to mention, if it can convince her to let it in, it can share her body as its own for a period of time.

One of the eldest in her current collection, and long-since ascended. The Attendant is her personal handy-being, and someone she often puts to good use; it's usually by her side, whether it be holding an umbrella, giving her a back massage, or listening to her problems- because who needs a therapist, right?~ unless you're flirting with one.

It's also Fortuna's physical backup should anyone try to harm her. It has, on multiple occasions, put that sharp diamond to good, brutal use.

Despite being continents apart, Fortuna will occasionally turn up unannounced, waltz into whatever Dick's doing, and drag him off on some wild adventure. The sort of friends who speak in sarcasm, in-jokes, and may or may not be having sex. Once made a joke gamble that resulted in Tempest changing his legal mortal name to 'Dick Trumbles' for a hundred years.

She is his reminder that existence doesn't have to be a downer, and he keeps her in touch with a more 'common' way of living.

As said above, Fortuna waltzes into anything Richard is doing; this includes his therapy sessions. She didn't expect his therapist to be so interesting though, what with his cute little mortal body, and his entertainingly complex psychology- he reminded her of Psyche someone.

So she began flirting with him, in her own way. She tried to see if she could tempt his system into gambling their life at first, but they were too morally stable for that. She did convince the naive one to gamble away something else though...

A few months later, Fortuna turns up looking identical to the middle-aged man, but with her own flashy, elegant stylings. She's been visiting him for over a decade now, toying with him for the heck of it, whisking him away on her little outings with Richard from time to time, and on the occasion turning to him for advice.

Fortuna and Joy are the sort to spend time together only when necessary; it's not that they dislike eachother- quite the opposite- but they simply see it more useful to meet with a purpose.

The two were seperated for quite some time, previously hiring Joy to help with Fortuna's 'buisness' clientelle's fancy of a particular specialty meat. He left for a while, but no replacement could provide what he did, and so she saught him out once more. Since then, the two have continued their partnership, and Joy is often seen catering parties at the Carousel Casino, or lurking around the backrooms babysitting the Cherubim. The two have an odd sort of chemistry; casual yet stoic, buisness yet flirty- at least, from Fortuna's side anyway. But that's just how Fortuna is.

Steve // MATTER ? ? ? ? ?

Oh Steve... 'God of Gods' by right only, a reputation never earned. So lost to the concept of its own identity that it shapes itself only to please others. The moment it inevitably fails, it runs for the hills and starts again...

And sometimes those hills are Fortuna's doorstep. "Please- create me an identity- let me stay here-" it begs, the world shifting around it in its broken fit. "I cannot make something from nothing; you of all people should know that" she replies. She forces Matter to give her one true fact about itself, and then she will let it in. Often, it's simply just the name 'Steve'.

'Dead Living Things' - Jackson & hMB

I will go where the money can't go
Gold is dead, And your God has gone home
Powerhungry people with miniature souls
Good gold, Good gold, Good gold And the upper me

'Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land' - MARINA

-- on her goals

You don't have to be like everybody else
You don't have to fit into the norm
You are not here to conform
I am here to take a look insidе myself
Recognize that I could bе the eye, the eye of the storm

I am not my body, not my mind or my brain
Not my thoughts or feelings, I am not my DNA
I am the observer, I'm a witness of life
I live in the space between the stars and the sky

'Fear & Delight' - The Corrospondents

-- general vibes

I don't show it, but I quiver whenever you come near
And I cannot decipher between the thrill and the fear
I want to stop, but I like it too much to let it stop here
It's wrong, but I want you tonight
It was not my own volition, but I fell in deep
By running the distance I'd been advised to keep
I trot to the wolf as a doting sheep
It's wrong, but I want you tonight

'Tower of Babel' - Elton John

-- on the mortals she observes

It's party time for the guys in the tower of Babel
Sodom meet Gomorrah, Cain meet Abel
Have a ball y'all, See the letches crawl
With the call girls under the table
Watch them dig their graves
`Cause Jesus don't save the guys
In the tower of Babel
