The Failed Nightmare

As is the cycle of The Grimm Troupe, a Grimmchild was born to grow strong and replace the Nightmare King before them, a sacrifice to the Nightmare Heart. The ritual, however, did not always succeed. One Grimmchild was befriended by a wayward vessel who joined the group, one named Acolyte. The two grew close, and rather than complete the ritual, they fled the Troupe. The Grimmchild, now known as Emberkin, was severely weakened by cutting their ties to the Nightmare Heart, losing most of their magic and becoming sickly. Still, as the Emberkin travelled with Acolyte in search of a new life together, they always remained optimistic and full of life. With a penchant for showmanship and feats of daring, they do anything they can to make their closest friend happy.
