Liyue's newest Watcher and Yuè's last apprentice. The layer of frost in her words and actions would deter many except for the courageous and daring.

Rapid as Wildfires - Yu-Peng Chen

Yún (云)

patient . loyal . protective

Despite numerous attempts at feigning to be aloof and detached, Yún barely manages to be someone that disregards others as nothing more than 'fodder for the Mad God's Gaze'. She is sincere at heart and most of the times, as described by Skye, 'too soft and warm-hearted to be a Watcher'. Though she does manage to fulfill her duties, they are nearly almost always in the least exciting way as Yún could barely have herself just watch horrific events unfold. Unless proven to be someone who she sees as irredeemable or someone who attacked her (and her loved ones), Yún will choose to give the barest of aid instead. Make no mistake, however, as Yún's training as a Watcher still holds her down, making her indifferent to a lot of people who only sees her as Liyue's Mist Flower.

Compared to the hardened Skye, Yún's words and expression are more sincere (but due to her training as a Watcher, she does tend to get aloof and whimsical as a form of self-defense, knowing what could possibly happen to people she is attached to) and she responds more kindly than her disillusioned brother. Perhaps her habit of observing some events or drama rather than partake in it (unless it becomes a true fight) has made the people that were envious of her, sneer and spread rumors of her 'cold, unflattering persona; truly a Mist Flower'-self.

As someone who is in the entertainment industry, Yún tends to get flowery with her words, sometimes even a hint of sarcasm and amusement are present in them. She rarely gets flustered nor she is easily embarrass, someone who tried to do so are more likely to have the tables turned onto them instead. Yún is also never visibly mad or distressed, as she is always quick to smile and redirect the conversation if it appears she is so.

Yún, despite her sincerity and kind-hearted nature, does tend to be a bit judgmental and extreme in her methods, especially if the other party begins targeting someone she is fond of. When she deems them unworthy of her respect, Yún will make sure to remember them, opening her eyes and not caring if the Mad God sees them or not. As she is someone also fiercely protective and loyal to the ones she cares for, she will choose the offending party as her 'offering for the Mad God' and make the scenario interesting herself if you truly push her limits.

Perhaps due to her rigorous training and achievements from when she was young, Yún does have a tendency to be rather fond of showing off her polished skills. It can be in a form of her words, her performances, or even in battle. She takes pride in what her elder brother had drilled into her, perfecting the art of being capable Watcher leading Liyue's faction headfirst into the Rebellion. Though it isn't as extreme as Childe's want for battle, Yún does tend to enjoy rather fierce and playful battles, finally being able to test herself and call herself worthy of being Yuè's final disciple.

trivia

Yún's two idle animations are: One of her opening her fan catalyst to make a snowflake as she gently laughs before sending it away. The other is of her clutching her Vision before opening her eyes fully (showing them glow) as she summons her polearm to slash something before sending it away and breathing a relieved sigh.

Her English voice actress is Arielle Tuliao and her Japanese voice actress is Mao Ichimichi. Her Chinese and Korean voice actress is unlisted and uncredited.

As a rather famous performer, the people of Liyue has taken to calling her "Liyue's Mist Flower" due to her unique performance (which is a mesh of playing instruments while battling slimes). Upon meeting the Traveler, Paimon gives her the nickname, "Miss Sleepy-Eyes" due to her consistently shut eyes and her rather whimsical way of talking.

It is revealed in a quest later on that Yún has very blurry memories of her childhood (due to trauma) before she was saved by her brother/father-figure.

Sometimes, she would address Childe with "Young Master" or "Sir" though her tone of voice suggests she does not take it seriously.

Her specialty dish is a 3 dish called "Slime Condensate Noodles" which were based on "Cold Mung Bean Jelly Noodles". When eaten, it increases resistance to Cryo Damage by 50% and will heal the members upon receiving Cryo-based attacks from the enemy.

On her birthday, Yún will send the player a message along with three Teachings of Diligence books, her specialty dish, and twenty Silk Flowers.

Yún's Constellations are named after her rather elaborate quote from one of her dialogue conversations.

story

"The order of the instruments matters not, at least to those who don't pay enough attention. The Dizi at dawn, to welcome the sun and mimic the birds; the Pipa and Ruan at noon, to show the sun's splendor at its highest peak; the Guzheng at dusk, to thank the sun's performance as it heads to slumber; and the Ehru at midnight, coaxing the sun with the moonlight's song and gentle lullaby."

𖤓 Childhood 5GYpdaR.gif

Yún, whose name is Liqin before the tragedy that set her into the path of a Watcher, is born on a chilly October evening to a pair of struggling merchants. Her much younger memories consisted of playing by the fields and out-running slimes in Qingce Village. Though the family of three may not have had the easiest time (especially in terms of mora), they seemed to be more or less content and happy. Most of Liqin's life as she grew older back then was spent doing nothing but helping out her parents to gain mora by performing in the Liyue Harbor or running errands for various shopkeepers whenever they visit Mondstadt for trade. Unfortunately, as mora seemed to be always tight, Liqin never really had many opportunities to play with children of her age as she was too pre-occupied with her jobs. This rather forced her to mature a bit, despite her young age.

When Liqin reached eleven years old, her parents wanted her to at least experience a small luxury other families could afford and splurge a bit. However, as they were about to celebrate, a business opportunity lands on their feet so, in apology, Liqin's parents brought her with them to work once again. As they were hurrying through Stone Gate, they passed by a similar caravan heading towards the opposite direction. The family paid it no mind up until the screaming and sudden shouting began. As the two caravans crossed, a pair of Lawachurls appeared, blocking the way. The monster destroys the caravan Liqin and her parents were on and nearly killed her as well. The other caravan seemed to be in a similar situation and finding no way out of the crisis, the parents of both caravans used themselves as distractions to get their kids to safety. It barely did nothing as the Lawachurls simply swiped them aside, half-killing them. Upon seeing their parents in that state, both children awaken their Vision and managed to fend off one of the Lawachurls. Before the two children could do anything further with their newly awakened Visions, they began to writh in pain, as they felt their Vision throb and destroy them from the inside.

As they were about to be killed by the remaining Lawachurl, a mysterious man had suddenly appeared and fought it back and defeated it with ease. Glancing at the two children, he went over to their dying parents, who called out to their children in pain before asking for the man's assistance. In exchange for their Oaths to a being called the Mad God, he promises to help them out as the worried parents finally let go and passed on. The man did the same thing, asking the two children for the cooperation and promise of Oath to the same being. Upon doing so, the throbbing finally stopped. The man, who named himself Yuè, had promised to train them and help them survive so that they could one day take back their freedom (and to continue his fight if he so ever fall to his demise)

Not really having anywhere to go now, Liqin agrees and along with the other child named Leon, follows the mysterious Yuè back to Liyue. After being adopted by him, Yuè gives the two their new names, Yún and Skye, mostly to distance themselves from the traumatic night (and to distinguish their new roles from their old life). Thus, starts their journey as Seeker apprentices of the former generation's strongest Watcher.

"Never get attached. The moment the Mad God deems them interesting, there must be no hesitation from either of you. A corpse has no place in the midst of our fight for our freedom."

❈ Life as a Seeker Apprentice TylHLe6.gif

As a mere Seeker, Yún holds no ability to use her Vision-Gaze, at least not with the same proficiency as Watchers. Despite that, Yuè trains her and Skye in Watcher skills (to the point of habit) that they would need later on. Moving while keeping their eyes perpetually shut (to avoid showing the Mad God, if it choses to look through them, anything interesting and forcing them to interfere), deflecting useless probing questions with simple words of politeness (as their Oaths would not allow them to divulge anything important anyway), even judgement of what to present to the Mad God as a temporary 'offering of entertainment' if they are in a pinch. Yuè drilled everything he had acquired from his years of experience onto the two. Yún and Skye take in everything without so much as a complain as they know what awaits them if they give up.

Yuè also did not neglect their combat training, acting as their master in the combat art of the polearm and claymore respectively. As he and Yún also share the same element, he taught her how to manipulate her Vision-Gaze as much as she could (though it would be years before she can actually show the fruits of her labor) without having to actually use it, which explains how she is so well-versed in her elemental mastery. As they got a bit older, he also added in training their bodies to handle Stacking and how to bear the burden and strain of their Gazes clawing at them at inopportune times.

During these years, Yún's reputation in Liyue Harbor also began rising as she continues making ends with what she is good at. She still helped around with chores and began helping out in the performance halls, giving her the chance to learn and observe the performers playing various instruments. Soon enough, she was recruited to be a performer, something she accepted gladly. After a while, she also began applying her combat skills to battle out certain monsters (most commonly, Hydro Slimes) as she performs and plays instruments on stage. Her training with Yuè had now blossomed as well, giving her some sort of polite and aloof attitude, earning her "Liyue's Mist Flower" nickname.

"For what it's worth, you, Skye, and Ame all deserve better. My only wish, is for you three to be the last generation to take over."

❖ A Watcher's Promise OsGoDNY.gif

A few years before the Traveler arrives in Liyue, Yún ends up having a fateful encounter with the Fatui's Eleventh Harbinger, Tartaglia. Though originally, nothing much came out of them meeting (perhaps a few jokes and Tartaglia's interest in her performances) but an incident involving Yuè (with his reputation as Liyue's Elder Brother) that had her be in the center of the event ended up in Tartaglia's reports. As Yún was a rather big person of interest, he decided to keep his eye out for her by forcefully placing himself in her life (by reintroducing himself as 'Childe')

The incident digs deeper, however, as most of what had happened were not privy to the public eye (including the Fatui). As Skye in Mondstadt had already been promoted as a Watcher at this point, Yuè had also been preparing for Yún to take over his responsibilities, knowing that he might be targeted by the Mad God soon enough (especially after uncovering some big important secrets regarding the state of the Collective and actually being caught by the mad god) The little window of time he had gotten to prepare her mentally was also more than enough for it to force Skye to return to Liyue in order to take Yuè's life. Yún had tried to stop them but was unsuccessful at her attempt. They end up at the highest peak of Qingyun Peak, wherein Yuè tells Skye and Yún his final words, hoping that they wouldn't have to take in new Seeker apprentices as he had, before letting Skye slash at him as he falls to his death. After that, Yún was promoted as Liyue's Watcher, as she now continues Yuè's fight for their freedom. Though Skye may have been the one to 'kill' Yuè, she does concede that she bears no ill-will towards him, who she knew is just as torn up about it as she is.

Soon, Yún began implementing her Vision-Gaze (and practice her Stacking abilities) in her performances, causing Childe to be further intrigued by her. He never understood why she never used her Vision until now so he stays by her side, observing her. Yún doesn't mind it, though she is rather curious as to what a Fatui Harbinger would find out. As they are both drawn into the other's orbits, soon enough they slowly fall in love, their flirting becoming something genuine and the stakes grow bigger than just simply Yún promising her late elder-brother that she will fight for their freedom.

Upon the Traveler's arrival, this marks the start of the mad god's activity to increase as well, forcing the Watchers to finally fight head-on. Nothing is certain but one key fact is that Yún and the rest of the Watchers are at eye of the storm.

relationships

YvG6gQa.png

Spouse.

Originally, the two met under tense circumstances (with Tartaglia being in charge of keeping an eye on Yún due to Yuè's death and with Yún contemplating on whether or not to use Tartaglia as a tribute for the Mad God) however, as they both keep the other company, they slowly develop intrigue until the bond forms and turns into dedication and love.

Childe grew an interest in her after an incident involving some of the new Fatui recruits being 'hazed' to supposedly scare off Liyue's Mist Flower but rather than get beaten up, Yún turn the tables on them and shows off a bit more of her strength.

Yún, in turn, found herself falling when Childe invites her out for a date, only for the supposed 'usual stereotypical date' to be something she did not expect: a fight against an Oceanid boss. Since then, both of them had no idea that the small spark of interest would lead into actual fondness and love, despite their circumstances.

Even though the two of them trust the other's skill in battle, make no mistake that when the other is threatened, they will both spare no hesitation and deal with whatever is causing the problem, even if it means eliminating it.

Adoptive Brother, Apprentice-mates

Her adoptive older brother with the same circumstances as her. Though they are not related through blood, their bond and shared experiences make them as tight and close as real ones, even with the distance now currently separating them. Yún tends to worry more about how Skye presents himself to people (as someone being easily taken advantage of) despite knowing he is very, very, capable on his own. On the other hand, Skye worries less about Yún though he would comment from time to time to remember her training and tease her via their shared Gazes.

They may act like the usual, bickering siblings snarking at each other at every opportunity, however, Yún and Skye will move Teyvat itself if the other is in danger. If given the opportunity to run over and help, they will always take the chance, even if the odds are stacked against them.

bAf2EHK.png

Adoptive Elder Brother (deceased)

Yún's deceased adoptive elder brother (and parental figure). He taught her everything there is to know about being a Watcher and all her combat and survival skills. Though he may seem to have been strict and rather Spartan at times towards her, she knew that he was doing it all for her to be able to stand on her own. The moments when he would indulge in her wants were some of her fondest memories of him. Yún respects him dearly and would be quick to defend his reputation towards anyone badmouthing him.

SYyDBAB.png

Exes, Former Apprentice-mates.

Yún's former apprentice-mate (and first love). Due to a certain incident that proved just how unapologetically cruel and evil he is, any love she has had for him turned into fear and disgust. After her brother's order of exile onto him, he left while Yún was left to recover from all his emotional manipulation and gaslighting, taking years before she felt like she can trust herself to love another person once more. Despite recovering, traces of disgust and fear of him and his actions still linger behind her back and would come back full force upon his return from the shadows after the Mad God's sealing.

Adlai_Pfp.png?ex=65f7103b&is=65e49b3b&hm

???, Barak's Alternate-Self.

Barak's alternate self, from a different world wherein he is Sumeru's Watcher without the guidance of Yún's elder brother. Though he and Barak may share the same face and even alias and names, their personalities and ideals couldn't be more different than night and day. Yún believes that Adlai is what Barak would have become had he not been corrupted with power and egged on by the Lich Queen. Though she understood that Adlai is not Barak, their similar faces would yet instill terror in her heart, as the trauma she had experienced under him could not bypass his changed persona.

Xue

Childhood Friend.

Perhaps her only instance of a childhood friend, and the only one who understood her decision to work early rather than play unlike most other kids. Though her clearest memory of Xue was a time when she had managed to make the other girl laugh when Dendro Slimes had chased her all over the field, it seemed to have been one of the only clearest ones during this time period. Yún is grateful for that, as when she was able to reunite with her through Skye later on, she could at least be proud to say that she no longer will run away from any battle (especially if its Dendro Slimes)

bt2wb8d.png

Close Friends.

Though originally, looking after Tung-Mei was a favor she granted to her brother, Yún finds herself liking the other girl's company and even eventually opening up to her (despite all facades and attempts to keep her from getting too close) Yún finds herself craving the company of Tung-Mei, often when Skye is not available to share Gazes with or simply to stave off the long and grueling days of finding things to keep the Mad God satisfied with her. The two are often seen chatting over food in Wangmin Restaurant (or when it is after a performance, in Liuli Pavillion or even in the Wangshu Inn) as they chat about various trivial things. Tung-Mei tends to call Yún 'Sister' just as Yún had began calling her 'Mei'er'.

OFcw5MZ.png

Friends.

One of the Shadow Disciples of Cloud Retainer that had coincidentally met with Yún more than a few times. Curious, the being kept an eye out for the young lady, up until to a point wherein they finally formally met. Once long ago, Yún had managed to save a familiar of an Adepti, earning her their favor and being gifted with her own Teapot. The task of delivering it to her had been given to Suxiao, finally starting that spark of friendship. Suxiao tends to visit her realm, if only to watch over the surprising amount of foxes that had followed Yún all the way back to her Teapot.

jtsnDtE.png

Friends.

Childe's younger cousin and Yún's little sister. Though she knew that most of the time, Manami and Childe don't get along, they do respect and even love each other in their own sibling-rivalry way. Yún tends to mediate between them if they do end up getting into more of a tussle, and at the end of the day she ends up asking them to make up.

iJG3dEC.png

Friends.

One of Yún's friends that she met through Zhongli. Though they haven't had much contact in years, she still treasures the times she does get to meet her.

lYVznkl.png

Friends.

Another one of her friends that she had met by coincidence during one of her trips to visit Skye. Their meeting was brief but it had a long lasting impression on the Watcher.

Aq0BW3c.png

Little Brother. Friend

While Yún doesn't necessarily have any soft spots for other kids, Teucer is one of the few exceptions as they had bonded a bit before even learning that he is Childe's younger brother. Before the events of Mighty Cyclops' Adventure!, Yún had found the young boy all alone on the docks. During that short amount of time, Teucer latched onto the nice sister, knowing that it's the Yún that his brother talks about. Though she was forced to part with him due to an emergency, he promised to meet up again later (wherein it is revealed that he and Childe are siblings)

Soon enough, Yún also began spoiling Teucer, providing him with what he wished during his stay with the Traveler. She does briefly comment that normally, she's not too fond of getting close to kids but Teucer reminded her of another kid she is fond of (later being revealed as the Watcher from Natlan). In a span of a day or two, he has permanently etched himself onto Yún's heart and Archon's forbid that if anything were to hurt him, Harbinger Tartaglia is the least of your worries.
