"Look like you're havin' a hard time there, hm?
Have a small drink on me and tell me about it. Yer little secrets are safe with me..."
---

You find yourself at a lovely little bar, though you find yourself feeling like you've been sticking out from the rest of the regular here.

"Ah, a first timer! What're lookin for, bubs?"

It didn't take long for you to settle down, but today was a day where no one in your own circle was able to accompany you. So you'd try to experience something new; like the fancy little jewel just a block or two away from the heart of the city. You felt this immediate connection with one of the bartenders; the talkative one, at least.
You could tell that he loved to talk. He loved to smile. But more importantly, he loved to listen. Bart was a good man who knew how to break the ice when it comes to socializing. Maybe you weren't the type of person to easily open up to something, but Bart's voice and excellent choice of words... maybe nothing's wrong with venting to him just for a little bit.

And not even a glass through, tears of sadness, anger, and dissatisfaction ran down your face. When you've entered this bar, you were confident that your life was in bliss. Yet the further you went into this conversation, you've began to realize that there were even more flaws. Your journey from birth all the way to where you sat at the bar table, you rarely complained about how the world was treating you. The truth was finally there; you were distressed this whole time.

But in the end, you felt a bit happier.
To speak the truth to him: the Bartender who holds many secrets.

It's rather odd though. You've thought that letting out those feelings would work on others, but you choke every time you wanted to speak the truth.
At some point, you'll come back again to the Fox's Den, hoping you'll be able to have that relief wiped away.

  • All kinds of jokes

Dislikes

  • Cleaning glasses; usually lets Ender take care of that since he doesn't like talking as much.
  • Bar fighting: Kind of a pain to clean up the broken glasses during the aftermath.
  • Humorless people; it doesn't matter if your jokes are bad. If he can't laugh, then he likes you a bit less.

About

Personality

Not one for eloquence, Bart is a gruff yet practical man in his own bar. Though dedicated to his line of work, he is more social and loose than his younger brother, willing to crack affable jokes inside and outside of the bar. He has little tolerance for interruptions and is known to have a short fuse when his conversations are cut short, and most likely would raise his voice if he was constantly interrupted. When off duty, he is actually a kind soul who doesn't stress too much over his losses. He is the one who offers an optimistic and friendly view to all of his brooding customers, where most find it rather annoying of the constant positive personality. Most likely, his softer side surfaces on the quite easily, as he remarks on his reluctance to being harsh on anyone of his regulars.

He admires his younger brother and fondly calls him "Endy" or "Chiseler." He shares his Ender's sense of loyalty and rudeness, as they can both be equally cold to their foes. His relationship with his brother, while rather playful, can occasionally turn awkward as the more outspoken elder brother often makes remarks to the more quiet younger one.

Backstory

Like Ender, Bartholomew's origin is rather unknown to everyone except for his blood brother, even when he talks nonstop about himself. No one could really pinpoint his past. Of course, there were a couple of people that managed to pry into Ender's personal life that it left hints to his older brother:

Bart is the oldest brother of the two Bartenders in the Fox's Den. A son of a con-man and a beautiful woman that he could barely remember who she truly was. Both him and Ender were struggling to live a proper life, trying to get rid of possibly debt that burdened them since childhood. Ender failed to finish school and was often seeking to find a job to support him and Ender. He wasn't really good at the jobs he started off with, but the experience made him realize that he was rather good at talking to people. For a few years he'd be spending time becoming a door-to-door salesman until his little brother found the jackpot outside of the country. His brother was more than willing to become a butler just to be able to move away from their old home, they gave the both of him a home but... Bartholomew was never the kind of man to become a butler. Instead that leftover money went into a bartending class, per suggested by Ender's master so he can hold off on his own.
And for years, Bart enjoyed working for the bar owned by Ender's former masters and he'd only assume he would be working there until retirement. But Ender was now deciding to move out to live in America, perhaps it was an opportunity for Bart to join him and discover brand new people. It wasn't for his own personal gain, he was there to help his brother out, who constantly worries about Ender's rather begrudging personality.

Trivia

  • The Fox's Den is a bar that's popular among the grey foxes in the city.
    > If you're looking for a particular type of gentleman with class and age - then your best bet is here.
    > Hidden beneath the bar is an underground weapons trading and development. Bart has nothing to do with it, as it involves Specialist Agents.
  • Bartholomew suspects it might have been from his mother, but he's has... A Gift. It's nothing the magical hands that Ender has, but the way he speaks and talks makes others open up a little more:
  • "How's she cuttin'?" : If a customer feels rather somber, Bart is there for them. The moment he starts to wonder, a customer has this overwhelming feeling to let it all out. In the end, his customers feels just a tad bit better and their worries go away.

"Yer secret's safe with me.": Bart isn't one to gossip unless his brother really needs the information, or they want to exchange something in return. But using the right words... or maybe the right voice, everyone he asks a question to would immediately speak the truth for him. Of course, all necessary secrets are kept with him - especially when he has to swear by it. Those kinds of secrets will be kept to him until death. If he doesn't swear by it, then he assumes it's fine to give it to someone else.

    - Sobriety: Perhaps the customer had a bit too much to drink. If anything, he'll probably forget everything that happened after that 4th shot, inside and outside of the bar. Woke up in a hotel and couldn't remember who you've slept with? Found yourself behind a cell or on the hospital bed? Possibly found a couple hundos in your pocket and don't remember a thing as to how you've acquired it? Sure as hell that Bartender wouldn't know what the fuck happened the moment you left his bar, but maybe talking to him would help you remember... every single detail? If you somehow managed to see him again right when you got a massive headache, his voice lets all that pain disappear.

    - A fine fella: Your knees buckle the moment he tries his hand on flirting with you. Or maybe this isn't a special power or anything. Maybe you just like him? (:

    - Earwigging: You've got something secretive to say to someone else? You're much safer going outside to tell them. Everything you're saying behind people's backs or whispering into their ear, everything you say will somehow manage to reach Bart's ears. Right then and there.

    - "Feck off!": Again, all secrets stays with Bart. But if he's got something important to say to a customer, he'll make sure no one is going to be there to interrupt, intrude, let alone overhear their conversation. With the magic words, no one in the bar will be able to hear the secret from his lips. Hell, even the most advanced bug mic wouldn't pick up what he said to a particular client.

  • A secret for a secret.
    > If a customer wants a juicy secret (that Bart doesn't swear by) about a particular customer, then he'll give it in exchange for another secret of the same worth.
  • The bar is only open during the night. Starting sundown all the way to when the sun rises.
    > Has a pool table and a few dart boards located on the second floor.
    > The back in the second floor is where both Bart and Ender live whenever the bar is closed. However, Ender rarely sleeps so most of the stuff in the back is preoccupied with Bart's belongings.
  • If there was any possible danger in the bar, whether it involves the integrity of the building, or would possibly harm other customers, then he'll try to soften the tension.
    > Worst case scenario, he and his brother would have to get a bit aggressive. Or they call the Prodigal Agents.
  • His brother is part of the [Administration], but not Bart himself is part of the Organization. But he's more than willing to help his brother as he is affiliated with it - even if he's of a lower rank.
  • Not once he's tried or had to hide a secret from Ender.
    > He does it because, aside from the bar itself, Ender is the only family he has left and loves him.
    > Even if he wanted to hide the secret, Ender will know that he's hiding from him and can't help but confess.
  • Always a talker. He loves to socialize and be with people.
    > A bit heavier Northern Dublin accent if he ever did speak. A hard indication that he's grown up in Ireland before he flew out to the rest of Europe and then move to America.
  • A very high alcohol tolerance, has been a regular drinker during his young adult years.
  • Loves listening to people.
    > It doesn't matter if it's something weird like conspiracy theories. He likes to meet new and interesting people regardless.
  • Bart will recognize every face in the bar quite well. However, how he associates to the people he remembers are rather odd...?
    > Knows every person that has entered the bar. Even those who only came by, those who only stayed for the night, and, of course, his regulars. He knows their names and at least remembers something about them.
    > When he associates something to a person, it's always something different. It could be the way a person sips their drink. Possibly be how long it would take before they ask for the next drink. Maybe the time that particular individual came in with a bad haircut. No matter who it is, Bartholomew remembers something very specific about you.
  • He has nothing that he knows about his mother, or her origins. She was gone not longer after Ender was born.
    > But Bart was bestowed her mother's powers and ages two or three times as slow than the normal human being.
    > He DOES NOT stop aging, again, he simply ages slower.
  • Eventhough Bart is the older one, he's definitely the shorter one out of the two.

Relationships

Ender  [ Little Brother ]

The "beloved" brother that Bart seems to think so highly of. But it was Ender that helped the two of them get out of that life of debt back in their home, so the big brother couldn't help but be thankful. Ender doesn't really like to talk, and most of the time he's particularly rude outside of the bar, which is something he's rather use to since childhood. And because Ender almost never sleeps after he's done with his butler business during the day, he invites Ender to work in the bar. And Bart wants to help out in Ender's line of work, so whatever Ender needs for the Prodigal, Bart will do his best to gather whatever information is needed.

Michael[ Regular ]

Michael is a hardworking detective and a good father for his children. He remembers Michael quite well because he always talks about his children, if not his line of work. One day Michael hung around for a long period of the night to figure out a particular suspect, and unknowingly Bart has helped the detective solve a rather difficult case in the end. Again, Bart has secrets from all sorts of people and he was rather glad that he was more than happy to help. He can finally see Michael relax for once... but of course, not for long before the next case stresses him out.

Maximille  [ Friend ]

Now Maximille is a familiar face that he finds rather comforting to see, even if he's in a sour mood. But he's known Maximille in their younger years. And knowing that Max was his little brother's former lover, he's tried his darnest to not pry into his reasons why he broke up with him. And Max knows of both Bartenders' abilities and tries to directly get information from Bart himself, but in the end, he only redirects him to Ender - someone that Max doesn't want to see so often. In Bartholomew's eyes, he also finds it entertaining watching him and Ender argue about pointless things for hours
