Kepler is short, stocky, and of average weight. His anatomy is like that of most schnauzers, with folded, triangle-shaped ears and a nub tail.
He has big paws with deep purple paw pads, a lighter purple nose, and a purple mouth and tongue.
Kepler's fur is thick and wiry. He keeps most of his fur at an even length, excluding a tuft of bangs and a short schnauzer mustache.
Most of its fur is a greenish-grey of five different hues, ranging from a pale silver to a dark charcoal, with the darkest fur being on its back, and the lightest being along its underside. He has a large, heart-shaped marking on his chest flanked by an oval spot on either side. On each ear, shoulder, and hip, it has a group of three neon green spots, as well as three dark grey spots under each eye. The underside of his tail is neon green, and his inner ears are lilac.
Kepler's eyes have a perpetually sleepy and relaxed appearance. Half-lidded by dark grey eyelids, its rich purple irises contrast starkly against black sclera, and stark white pupils give him a surprisingly piercing gaze.
Two short, neon green antennae protrude from Kepler's head. It has neon green retractable claws, and white retractable teeth.
- Spots are only grouped in sets of 3, except for two chest spots.
- Retractable teeth function like Toothless' from "How to Train Your Dragon."
- Blood is purple.

Kepler and Eko share a very special bond.
Eko's mimicry intrigued Kepler the first time they met; he dedicated extraordinary amounts of time and energy to learning Eko's personal language. Now, not only is Kepler able to fully comprehend Eko's speech and act as a translator for them, but it has formed an inseparable friendship with its fellow canine alien.
They simply enjoy being around each other, telling stories and talking for hours.
