When people show signs of developing superpowers, Dane hunts them down and puts them out of their misery before their strange plague can spread. It was a lonely job until one of his hunts ended with an unexpected stowaway hiding in the back of his car---he wasn't happy with Casey tagging along, but eventually she learned the ways of the job and proved herself to be a valuable partner. Now he sees her as a little sister and can't imagine anyone else by his side.
