Tokoyami was born a dragon into the medieval ages of Hokkaido, but saw it through the transformation into a more modern world. Although he, too, had to change... He did not feel himself wanting to. He was connected to the old ways; druidism and guardianship. Despite his love for many of the things brought by this new age, he decided to stay in the wilds and aspired to protect the snowy tundras of the North. Now as he finally grows older, he vows to keep the villages beneath the icy peaks safe.

APPEARANCE

Tokoyami either appears as a dragon or a wolf, whichever the circumstance calls for. Size and anatomy are the only difference between these two; as a wolf he stands either 4 feet tall on all fours, or 6'4" upright. As a dragon, his length can vary, a skill acquired by the need to fit into small spaces or to become large enough to intimidate.

No matter the form he takes, his palette and markings remain the same. He is mostly a honey-gold, perhaps blonde, with dark browns around the ends of his fur. Splashes of creamy hues from birth now form mask and sock shapes, as well as make his underbelly (which is adorned with rows of colorful, pearlescent scales). His flesh is a soft, sakura pink and his claws are brown as well. His eyes are like crystalline waters. The prongs on his head are striped like white-blue candycanes, and he likes to wear sashes, rope-collars and ribbons of a similar color scheme. Almost always has a pair of silver bells around his neck, wrists or ankles.

PERSONALITY

Toko is a bit dumb, but makes up for it by being silly, helpful and kind. He is generally well-meaning and likes to bring joy to others. Being a pacifist, he prefers to avoid fighting and other chaotic situations, but handles natural disasters and other dangers very well. The idea of people in danger brings out a fatherly instinct in him, and he finds it in his nature to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Besides this, he is very social and prefers to be around people while keeping a watchful eye on things. He enjoys children and animals very much, and loves to entertain. Even if he is terrible at it, he likes to sing, dance, and even play instruments or draw among other tricks. He is very patient with creatures of all kinds, and loves tackling new challenges... No matter how bad the outcome is, or how much it hurts his brain.

HISTORY

Born into a world of nature and discipline, Toko grew up around the forest and with strong social bonds. He was connected to the wilds, his neighbors and the other lung dragons in an ancient Hokkaido (at the time known as Ezo). His eternal youth as a result of his draconic blessing allowed him to see the land change through the decades, which meant that mortal companions constantly passed around him. Whether by war or other disasters, or by illness or age, Toko was very sad to see many of the villagers go. Nevertheless, he learned from his parents to preserve what could be, and to accept the balance of nature.

Inspired by his family's growth, and by the perserverance of old spirits and traditions, Toko began to adapt with the changes. But despite coming to an understanding with new civilization and technology, he decided to return to his home and aid those who'd not modernized. Whether or not they would 'get with the times' was not his concern; he just wanted to ensure they remained comfortable and happy as life moved forward.
