Following the success of Mettaton's robot form, Dr. Alphys was tasked with creating a line of anti-human robots. To ease her workload, she integrated her sentient AGI computer into the first prototype, creating who we now know as "Zero". As expected of a supercomputer, they excelled in combat and general skills with near perfection and ease. Their fatal flaws turned out to be an inability to control multiple bodies at once, thus defeating their original purpose, and the fact that they have never bested the captain of the Royal Guard in battle, resulting in many, many rebuilds and countless tweaks by Dr. Alphys.
After the king declared the project a failure, the captain seemingly and suddenly absconded from the timeline, prompting Zero to follow his trail. Though they did eventually find him in a new place, they also found theirself free of Dr. Alphys' influence. With the aid of Napsterbot 01, their hateful spite turned into a desire to live as their own person. They're still figuring out who that is exactly, but the Zero we know today is a far better person than anyone would've ever expected them to be. They still struggle in many aspects of life but they're also willing to keep trying.

- They have a Scottish fold named Leda and a black Persian named Io.
- They were originally built with four arms, as it was the fashion of their home timeline, but they have since removed the extra limbs. The shoulder ports still exist on their body however, but they're covered by clothing.
- Through strange and unexplainable shenanigans, the captain now possesses a variant of their robot, so Zero has developed a more feminine sense of style to help differentiate their identities. They still both dress in dark colours though...
- Zero is actually friends with the captain now! Old reflexes die hard but they know he's a better person now.
- Their choice of weapon is a 2x3dent that can freely transform into a "tiaratop", which can be used to enhance processing and combat skills.
- Every weekend they visit Napstablook's house in the remnants of their old timeline. They're too stubborn to leave but as long as they're comfortable, Zero can't do much.
