Carmen Smith

Carmen's smart, both in death and life. She's always been in the STEM track and inhaled knowledge. While school smart, she's not always street-smart. She finds reading people hard, which is why she's attracted by Cal's bluntness; that's something she can work with.

Can be cranky if pushed too far. But she loves joking with her friends, so that's what they do to cheer her up.

Carmen wasn't always a ganger. At one point she was alive, and a top grade student. Straight A's, she was going places. She had a boyfriend who she loved deeply, and who she was going to move in with after school.

She also had a sister, who she didn't really get along with. One day, she was arguing with her sister in front of her school. When Carmen's sister said something that made her upset, Carmen accidentally ran into oncoming traffic and got hit by a car. She died on the way to the hospital.

Her father, who worked at a factory on the shoreline where they were attempting to recreate humans using synthetic fake skin, was devastated and threw himself into recreating his daughter. He was so deep in his work that he missed her funeral. It was after that point that his co-workers grew concerned for him.

They convinced him to give up on the project and let her go, that would be the best for his mental state. After everyone left, there was a lightning storm, and a stray bolt hit one of the lightning rods, sending the needed spark into the project. Flesh!Carmen came to life from that, both with the memories and personality of Human!Carmen, but also with her own memories and feelings.

She left the factory and went home. After she was shunned by her parents and branded a freak, she ran away from home. Somehow, she made it to New Salem. She currently lives with Crawler and her family.
