Nettle "Nyonyo" Nyoo

Nettle grew up in a fairly reserved, middle-class household not too far from Sydney, Australia. The youngest of four siblings, Ze rarely had time by zirself at home, often overlooked and over-spoken at dinner, bath, or even at storytime. It wasn't too long before Nettle understood that many of the things she wanted to enjoy would ultimately be ignored, so, as soon as she entered public school at the five, she was known well to be the quiet, oddly attentive kid. She excelled in all of her classes at first, but soon settled for Bs and Cs when her parents didn't really bother to care. Finding less and less comfort at home, Nettle mostly kept to herself, but didn't see any further path out of the neglectful cycle she was is.

All that changed, however, when zir second-grade class took a field trip out to a local marine science center. Once there, Nettle immediately fell in love with the multitudes of fish and sea life on display, even keeping a particular name in mind as she stumbled across her favorite animal ever-- jellyfish. How they floated so peacefully captivated the young girl, barely able to pull herself away from the specimen tank when the trip finally came to its end. Almost entranced, Nettle finally had a new interest to pull her attention away from her less-than-ideal homelife, instead spending the hours after school and on the weekends at a multitude of institutions. Often walking or riding the bus, ze would visit aquariums and research centers, as well as libraries to learn more about the creatures ze loved. [WIP TBC]
