About

Y4iukKl.png

“Feel that corrupted blood in your veins and let it tarnish and muddle the blood your church finds so precious; feel it squirm like a snake until there is nothing else left.”

A young soldier for hire, Elizabeth is currently acting as a bodyguard to a young man with an apparent immunity to the beastly scourge that plagues Yharnam. Though short, Liz is physically very strong and uses her weapons — a flintlock pistol Evelyn and a pistol sword Reiterpallasch — with skill and precision, making her a fearsome opponent even for a hunter. Despite her reputation as a rather stoic fighter, she’s very gentle and warm towards others, even if a little stiff especially when jokes are concerned.

A descendant of the Cainhurst nobility, Elizabeth is immensely proud of her roots but ultimately forced to keep her bloodline a secret: the people of Yharnam do not take kindly to those they refer to as vilebloods, in particular now when they assume the nobles of Cainhurst have all been executed by the zealots of the Healing Church.

Character

YnLwGcz.png

Raised with the values of a knight, Elizabeth has developed nerves of steel and a self control many envy her for. Very independent and practical, Liz doesn’t find it troublesome the least that she’s living with her employers rather than having her own place. She’s very dedicated to her duties and has a strong loyalty for those she serves, not a stranger to taking someone’s life or doing morally questionable deeds to make ends meet. While she does have her own set of morals she’s not willing to go against, Liz has a rather pragmatic view on the world around her: she strives to do good whenever she just can, but is well aware that in a place infested by a plague it’s not always possible.

While she’s very kind and compassionate towards others, Liz tends to have trouble reading the room when it comes to more casual interactions like joking or flirting. Honest and sincere, she will often respond to jokes with complete seriousness, though will usually laugh if only out of politeness when a joke is explained to her. Not all jokes go over her head, but by large she’s very serious and always prefers taking things seriously over assuming them to be jokes. She enjoys making new acquaintances and connections, but isn’t awfully chatty unless someone else initiates a proper conversation first.

Growing up surrounded by burly knights and hunters her father had befriended, Elizabeth has learned most of her manners and way of socializing  from them. Resulting from this she has a rather masculine way of carrying herself, which often contrasts with her delicate looking appearance. It has also made her a little awkward around women, in particular due to fearing she’ll appear too forward or rough. Her worries are generally for naught though as she’s quite gentle around people, and her calm exterior is often seen as soothing by others. She enjoys physical closeness a great deal, but often fears she’ll overstep her boundaries.

Height: 167cm
Voice: Ayako Kawasumi
Hair: Light brown, two braids tied into a bun
Eyes: Pale grayish blue
Eyelashes: Long upper lashes
Nose: Straight, somewhat small, round tip
Lips: Thin, light
Body type: Mesomorph, petite but muscular
Demeanor: Serious, stiff, dignified
Other: Dark and red color under eyes and on their sides

Despite her relatively petite general build, Elizabeth has a decently muscular body as a testament to her hard training. She has a distinctively pale skin that burns easily under the sun, and she seems to be unable to tan either.

Hardly seen with her hair open, Elizabeth instead prefers to keep it braided and tied to a bun by the base of her neck. She keeps her side hair open but often tucks them behind her ears during action to avoid them getting on her way - there is a part of her that very much conforms to the aesthetical sense of the Cainhurst nobles and their sometimes impractical preference for style over form.

She doesn’t dislike skirts and dresses, but prefers wearing trousers largely for the practicality of them, as well as the fact she’s not very used to wearing dresses. As a child she would mostly get them torn or dirtied so her parents made her wear trousers instead, and she feels more in control of her movements in them as a result. She might wear a gown for a formal event but will likely feel uneasy and vulnerable with the restrained movements.

Skills & abilities

  • Left handed, though seems to execute a lot of tasks with her right hand just fine as well.

  • Her handwriting is fine, but due to being left-handed her writing often gets smudged by her hand when she writes and makes it difficult to read.

  • Has a high blood tinge and as such can use weapons like Reiterpallasch and Evelyn. She prefers using her rapier as a sword first and foremost, but isn’t averse towards using its transformed form’s pistol either. She also owns a Chikage but doesn’t generally carry it with her as her main weapon. All her weapons are mementos her parents were able to take with them when they fled Cainhurst.

  • Her dyslexia makes it difficult for her to read, and as such she’s not much of a reader. She does appreciate books though, and to pass time Matyas often reads for her out loud.

  • Because of her dyslexia, she’s gotten good at learning by listening and doing things by herself. She’s also good at memorizing images and has actually memorized some Caryll runes when she was younger, though mainly out of a fascination. She can’t, however, seem to be able to use the runes she knows - she lacks a catalyst.

  • As a vileblood descendant who hasn’t been blood ministered with the old blood, her blood actually has healing qualities as well as a temporary boost in stamina recovery. However, she’s reluctant at giving out her blood in the fear of her family being discovered by the Church Executioners. Furthermore, she was raised to think that no Yharnamite deserves her blood after what happened in Cainhurst.

Story

Summary: A daughter of two vilebloods who escaped Cainhurst just in time to avoid the Church Executioners’ slaughter, she grew up in Yharnam with little memories of her childhood home. Struggling with her schooling but showing excessive interest in combat, she would become an apprentice to a previous Cainhurst knight. After this she’d go on to become a soldier and a bodyguard for hire, currently looking after a young man with a curious immunity to the beastly scourge.

Early life

Though born in Cainhurst, there isn’t all too much Elizabeth remembers from her time there: when the relationship between Cainhurst and the Healing Church grew all the more tense, they escaped just in time before the Church Executioners would raid Cainhurst, slaughter its vileblood nobles and destroy the bridge to prevent anyone from coming or leaving ever again.

Bitter and extremely distrustful of the church, her parents planned on migrating somewhere far away from Yharnam and its religious and political reach, but many Yharnamites had been expecting escapees: guarding the borders, Elizabeth’s parents saw no other choice but to settle in Yharnam, right under the Executioners’ noses and the wait for the dust to settle before trying again.

However, they ended up staying at the outskirts of Yharnam permanently, with a small group of other vileblood nobles who had escaped their homeland just in time.

Childhood

Liz grew up as the only child to her parents, though looking after her often felt like an effort one would have normally put on at least two children: curious and adventurous with little regard to her own safety, she would often roughhouse outside with the other children and get herself in trouble for her thrill seeking endeavours.

At some point her parents stopped making her wear dresses after getting tired of their daughter coming home with dirtied or ripped clothes: they knew they couldn’t stop their daughter from exploring, and so it was financially easier for them to simply let her dress in clothes that wouldn’t be so prone to getting caught on things or being torn. It was a little unexpected in their time and setting, in particular as nobles, but with their diminished finances they had to make compromises even at the expense of social faux passes.

While there weren’t many vileblood noble children that survived, Elizabeth spent time with those who did survive and spent time in the small community by the city outskirts. She was never the most social or charismatic of children, but she was fiercely protective of other girls and very aware of her own worth. She missed her old friends back home dearly, and assumed those who didn’t make it to their community were likely killed or managed to escape outside of Yharnam, never to return. She did play with Yharnamite children as well, though was never able to form strong bonds due to her family's secret and their somewhat hostile feelings towards the people of Yharnam. .

Apprenticeship

Even as a small child Elizabeth was curious about weapons and combat, often following her father when he went out to par with his workmates and fellow ex-nobles of Cainhurst. Liz was fascinated by what she saw, and with her difficulties in the academic field due to her reading struggles made it rather clear what kind of path she would like for herself. While she didn’t show any more promise than a child her age reasonably would, she wanted to become a soldier-for-hire and her parents didn’t see much of an issue with it - especially if she didn’t work for the Church directly.

At age twelve Liz moved to Central Yharnam as an apprentice to a man who had once been a knight in Cainhurst. She lived with the man and his family, her youth spent practicing and studying the secret art of using one’s blood to strengthen the weapons and fight with. By then Liz had become more aware of her ancestral background and the fate of her family, and though her feelings towards her Queen were mixed, she took pride in her nobility and the old traditions of Cainhurst her parents would slowly pass on to her as she got older.

And as her studies would eventually come to an end, she would begin wielding the treasures of her home: Evelyn, Reiterpallasch and Chikage.

Work life

Due to her notable skill in combat the Church would eventually approach her in the hopes she would join their hunters, but Elizabeth declined: she had no reason to hunt, and her feelings towards the Church weren’t exactly benevolent either. She’d then work as a night watch for some Yharnamite aristocracy, making sure the night of the hunt wouldn’t involve humans robbing one another on top of the senseless slaughters.

For a few years she’d bounche from one employer to other, until she was hired as a bodyguard and assistant for a young nobleman called Matyas: having survived the attack of a Blood Starved Beast, he had lost his right leg but developed a curious immunity for the beastly scourge, as well as an ability to make beasts avoid him. With a medical mystery of this caliber, it was only expected the many factions and institutions in Yharnam would become interested in him - and not in a benevolent way.

Currently

Elizabeth continues working as a bodyguard, making sure the mystery of Matyas' blood is kept as tight of a secret as possible to avoid harm from outside forces. She has become close acquaintances with the doctor checking up on Matyas and his health, and has a complicated relationship with a hunter lady adamant in making Elizabeth join the hunt with her.

Trivia

  • She’s named after Erzsébet Báthory, as Cainhurst and its Queen seem to take some inspiration from her.

  • Owns a copy of “How to Pick Up Fair Maidens” and it’s the only book she has read from start to finish in recent years. She’s a rather awkward flirt when she tries doing it consciously, but quite smooth when she’s just being herself.

  • Currently not a hunter and instead just a bodyguard. She’s not particularly interested in hunting and prefers protecting civilians instead, despite the fact Rosa in particular has been trying her best at recruiting Elizabeth to join the hunters. She has a lot of promise and the right attitude, but lacks a reason to hunt - and why would she want to help the Healing Church anyway?

  • Doesn’t like being called nicknames or pet names by people she doesn’t know, though makes an exception with women much older than her. Those close to her tend to call her Liz, including Doctor Fredrika.

  • She keeps a diary, though from the extremely detached way she writes it seems more like a logbook or a report book than a personal diary. She tends to spend more time drawing decorations on the corners of the pages as it seems to destress her greatly.

  • She’s proud of her lineage, and although she claims to condemn the Queen’s actions, secretly she often wonders if she would serve her had she been born in the prime of Cainhurst.
