Personality

Eslore is a powerful mage. But also a mage who's quite selfish and has little desire to use his magical abilities for anything further than his own desires. He's a flirt with a love of relaxation and little driving desire to do much. He's got an immense amount of power at his fingertips, but he prefers to use it for little things like teasing the neighborhood kids and pranking the high mages. Impressing the ladies (or, men, he's not all that picky) and using magic to allow him to be lazy and half-arse his duties are also accurate depictions of how he utilizes the potent magical power he possesses. No one is quite sure what his goals are nor what he intends to do with his powers. Whether he'll stay a mage..or flee elsewhere to do whatever he likes.

He somehow manages to be lazy and self-serving around a majority of the people around him, but he is deathly afraid of disappointing his father.  Despite all the strife he gives everyone else at the Mage's Hold, he will obey his father without question and the agitated stare of the man who raised him is more than enough to put Eslore in his place.

Eslore is an optimistic, generally good natured guy with a love of shirking work. He spends a lot of time sleeping and any time he can't be found he's probably hiding somewhere sleeping the day away. His desire to avoid work isn't necessarily due to being lazy, as his dislike of working is more attuned to his fear of failure. He possesses a deep seated fear of abandonment and has this idea in his mind that if he works- and fails his work, he'll be tossed out or deemed unsatisfactory to the other mages and more importantly to his father.  His solution- is to just not do work instead. He can't fail-if he never tries right?

His main goal in life seems to be entertaining himself and small magic tricks like bringing a broom to  life or pranking the elderly maid who cleans his room are no problem to him. He  starts to get intimidated and avoid doing larger magical stunts  as much as he possibly can. He's very confident in the things he knows how to do, and routine-safety- and security are very much preferred to him, because that means he knows when he can get away with slacking and things are calm.

He does tend to crack under pressure, and as soon as things start changing or spiraling out of his control he is very fast to panic and fumble to try and fix things to something he can understand and handle. He tries to be independent, and often seems falsely as if he is- but when things go awry he's remarkably quick to rush to his father for help. No one else- only his father. If his  father isn't around, he forces himself to take charge and handle things, because a need to make his father proud drives him. His  father's opinion is very valuable to him and he considers it often  above himself. His father is a powerful man and its not just the weight  of his own actions Eslore must bear, but that of his father's reputation as well. Even if his father is rather relaxed and most often laughs off any of his  failures, Eslore is permanently paranoid of disappointing him. His fear of doing so arises from his mother 'leaving' him, and he fears if he ruins his relationship with his father, he will be left again.

He has a great sense of humor and is definitely not afraid of laughing. He's usually joking and playing around rather than taking things seriously (the only exception is if his  father's around of course). He is a flirt, and definitely loves attention. Its one of the few things he likes even more than a good nap. Mostly, its  just a way to feel important, and he doesn't actually pursue relationships further than a friendly flirting jest. He has respect for others far too much to be a woman(man?)izer. Plus his father might literally kill him if he did that.

He is pretty adaptable, and generally will learn from his mistakes/adjust to change over time but it takes him a while to process it and understand it. He is quite clever when he wants to be- but is a bit of a slow learner and he  doesn't feel safe saying he 'knows' something until he's researched and  experimented every in and out of the subject. He's the opposite of reckless and will fight or prolong a situation as much as possible if  he doesn't feel as if he understands exactly what he is getting into.

Trivia

  • He's an arcane mage (like his father) with a minor specialization in wind magic.
History

Son of the Archmage of the Ipus circle of magic, Eslore's mother is a mystery and his intents are even more mysterious. His father is a great mage, in fact- the greatest there was. To think he'd be able to love was a wonder all on its own, let alone for him to have a child. But Eslore is nothing like his father, and never was, sparking rumors that perhaps he was created, rather than born.

He seeks to serve the  goddess in his actions and formally his goal will always be to serve her above all others in payment for his life as a whole. Even if it takes facing his greatest fears to achieve that. Friendly or not with the gods, Eslore is afraid they too might leave him one day...

His father greatly loved his mother, more than the world and life itself. When she was expecting a child, the archmage was thrilled. His dreams and hopes were crushed..when difficulties arose. Eslore's mother died giving birth, and so too- did their son. In a last ditch effort to rescue some piece of his beloved,  some piece of his family, The archmage focused all of his power to drag the goddess Serafina from her slumber, begging her for a single favor. "Please. Save my son. Kill me if you have to. Save my son."

Touched by his endeavor and devotion, the goddess did as such. Saving his son's life and giving  him a second chance. With some consequence..the archmage and Eslore would serve under her. It may seem bad at some points...but serving the  good goddess and  her angels was far from a hell sentence. This secured a powerful ally in Serafina's favor against the evil god Marchosias.  The mage raised his son at the feet of the goddess, teaching him of her powers and the mysterious world of the deities, knowing he was condemning his son to a life he could not choose but one he knew he would not have at all if not for her aid. Eslore is aware of this  predetermined fate, and accepting of it. He grew up taught magic, and the archmage teaches him all that he can in the effort to make him as powerful as possible before something bad happens. As the archmage battles Marcosias' demons, he knows it is only a matter of time before his son is targeted by their black magics and that day he fears his son may not be ready...

It's a mystery just what the Archmage intends for his son's future, what he's training him for...most just pray he's not being trained to replace him as the next archmage, but neither Eslore nor his father will give further insight into such things.

Oribus relationship

Archmage, and one of few sorcerers with the ability to manipulate and control void/chaos magic, Oribus is an immensely powerful being. However, nothing could prepare him for the very human loss of his wife and very nearly his only son. He used all of his power to drag the goddess Serafina from her thousands of years of slumber, and beg her for help, in exchange, offering his eternal servitude. No one is quite sure how old he is, as with magic, age is irrelevant to him.

He is somber about this duty, and dedicates most of his time to the goddesses wishes, or training his son to do the same. He mentors a few other students here and there, but Eslore is the only one he dedicates any real personal time to. Despite being a bit of a 'workaholic', his son is the most precious thing in his life and he will always do whatever possible to make Eslore happy, even if its behind the scenes and his son would never know he'd done so.

Eslore adores his  father greatly, and looks up to him as an inspiration, mentor, and his only family. They have a very close bond.

Serafina Patron Goddess

Serafina is the goddess who saved Eslore's life- and also the one whom he and his father are sworn to serve. Despite such a demand, Eslore has nothing but respect for her. She did so with the best of intentions, and he understand that so long as he and his father are under her eye and her care- they are safe from being manipulated by gods who would use their magic to harm others. Eslore is accepting of this as his destiny.

Serafina doesn't actually ask much of them, only the occasional demon taken care of or a favor for her angelic beings, but in return, she offers them much more than they do for her.  She shares wisdom and magic with the academy, brings them rare things they need, and turns the luck on their side for spells that might usually fail.

Eslore does have a friendly relationship with her, even joking with her at times (which might appall others who don't understand how you can make fun of the creator goddess for being short), but she seems to find him entertaining at least.
