Dec 31, 20. No older than like 16-17. Dakota's mom did not, to put it nicely, anticipate having a child. She didn't want to abort him, so she handed him off when he was born, as she felt she didn't have the ability to care for him properly. Later on in life, she sends him letters (to make sure he isn't mad) and even visits him sometimes. She's a very sweet young lady and it's not bitter or weird. Dakota doesn't blame her and isn't really upset about still being in the adoption system. He's in a foster home right now, so he's actually pretty okay. Whatever keeps him from being separated from Maxie
Dakota often attempts to manage (but not ~control~) Maxie's dramatic behavior. He's kind, understanding, and forgiving. He'd love for him to just be happy and is trying his best to make that happen. It can be a strain, but he's never given up
Dakota himself is pretty mellow and respectful in stark contrast to his adoptive sibling. He doesn't like getting into trouble and will politely jump trough multiple hoops to keep it that way. Like Maxie, he's not without his own quirks. Dakota sees in low-contrast color most of the time. On occasion, this'll switch to hyper-contrast. When this happens, his eyes will take on a lava lamp-like appearance. It gives him a sort of clairvoyance when it's active, directing him towards things that may be helpful to his current situation. He has no real control of when it turns on and off nor does he understand what triggers it. He's often left with eye strain and a headache once it wears off (but seems to be immune to the effects while it's active)
