Mingzhu Fei's Links
Is as loyal to Emery as anyone can be. She has devoted a great portion of her time and life to serving him, including but not limited to recording his stories and protecting him as a bodyguard. She openly challenges her maker and demands respect, which she receives, because he has long since been won over by her strength of character.
Emery enjoys a mutually beneficial partnership with Ming. In words only, it doesn't seem like their bond would be very strong... but whether simply by time or something more, that's far from the truth. Emery instinctively trusts his oldest companion even when situations are dire - something that can't be said for anyone else in his life.
It took a long time for Ming to see eye to eye with Verona, but in present day they get along well despite their differences. Ming can't relate to Verona's irresponsible, whimsical lifestyle; Verona can't relate to Ming's unwavering pride and posture. They both, however, have grown to understand each other as women and as 'siblings', and take care of one another when they can. Ming has actually physically saved Verona in the past from hunters looking to take her out; Verona hasn't forgotten that.
Verona enjoys Ming's company more in present times than she has in the past. They both finally clicked and figured out how their friendship worked, without constantly being at odds. She thinks Ming is incredibly cool, and wishes she could be half as capable one day.
Ming isn't incredibly close with Lars, and she keeps her opinions on the matter very private. She was never surprised that he turned out the way he did, leveling most of the blame on Emery for making a poor decision. She believes that neither of them made good choices, and that they'll have to work it out for better or for worse. The farthest she has stepped into the situation was to share her opinion that Emery should just entirely disown and cut ties with him; leave it at that.
For the most part, Lars just doesn't connect with Ming very well. Their personalities are so polar opposite that they almost repel each other. He has taken advice and lectures from her in the past, but in more recent times, has avoided her as he doesn't know how to read her opinions on him. Better to be careful than to be sold out.
Ming is very fond of Yuenu, which is high praise as she doesn't feel that way about a lot of people at any given time. They have ages of stories to tell and a lot of similar experiences and interests; any time she gets to spend with her, is time well spent. Ming hasn't got the patience to front her personality for others, and feels seen by Yuenu without the misconception that she's frigid.
Despite the differences the different dynasties brought, Yuenu feels like she and Ming have some common ground. That's not where the commonalities end either. Both have an interest in martial arts. Yuenu thinks Ming is rather elegant and lovely and enjoys her company quite a bit. She allows herself to fall back into her more traditional femininity and manner around Ming because she both doesn't have to emphasize her human qualities, and because Ming just gets it. It's part of a social language that she feels Ming understands and speaks fluently.
