Ashkar's father was the previous overseer known by many names. He was an old god, an embodiment of wrath and the blinding light of the stars. Once an all-powerful conqueror of the universe, he has now been defeated and put to eternal rest.
Through her fights with her father, Ashkar was able to shapeshift into the same species he is. The power she gains in this form allowed her to defeat her father, hence the name Godkiller.
(ashkar's parents are two different species - father is a sun dragon, mother is a moon dragon. together they make a new species which is what ashkar and hirosian are (they are a different type of sun dragon). sorta like mules?)
