Personality

Stratosphere is a young, timid Skywing who currently lives at Jade Mountain Academy. He is most interested in writing and history classes, as well as learning about the other tribes. Stratos dabbles in poetry when he has the chance, and always tries to look at life through an optimistic perspective. Despite his shyness, Stratosphere is fairly expressive with his classmates and enjoys meeting new people. Loud noises tend to startle him. Before he was a student at Jade Mountain Academy, Stratosphere worked as a messenger for the Skywing Kingdom. Family life is a bit of a sore subject for Stratosphere, and it's one of the few things he dislikes talking about.

Youth

Stratosphere was born close to the Skywing palace, and was raised under the narrowed eyes of the wealthy and royal. His father, Ferrum, died in battle before Stratos was born. His mother, Peru, was a powerful general with close connections to the Skywing royalty, and Stratosphere was... less than what Peru and her peers expected. The copper dragonet was wiry and skittish, with no stomach for war and the glory of battle. He would never live up to his sister, Halia, and was cast aside. Barred from the spotlight, Stratosphere instead spent his time chatting with the cleaning staff and exploring the dark, shadowy crevices of the palace. He developed a passion for literature, absorbing great tales of old and stories that captured the mind and soul. He learned about the other tribes, but history scrolls weren't enough to satisfy his curious of what lay beyond the mountain crags.

As Stratosphere grew older, he looked to the skies and fell in love with the clouds. Despite his many flaws, Stratos was born with strong wings that granted him exceptional flying abilities. When he was still a dragonet Stratos begged his mother to fly and adventure all across Pyrrhia. He served no purpose at the Palace or on the battlefield. Instead he brought up countless other opportunities for Peru to consider. An explorer was too broad; he was too young to be a meteorologist; a traveling actor was too lowly for nobility like him. But a messenger could suit him. Stratosphere loved to fly, it wasn't dangerous, he could keep up with the adult dragons, and he would be out of Peru's scales. His mother finally agreed and allowed Stratosphere to become a messenger for Skywing nobility, and Stratosphere felt no greater joy. He was destined for the skies, soaring high above Pyrrhia, traveling over mountains and sea and the horizon beyond. He couldn't wait to get started.

Years passed and Stratosphere gained more confidence in himself. He grew to be a successful messenger and was able to travel to many different tribes. Stratos is still rather timid and he isn't the greatest fighter, but he has learned to be brave and face any challenge head-on. Stratos is a kind-hearted and gentle soul who tries to find beauty in a war-torn world, fascinated by nature and the stars, with a curiosity and appreciation toward the other tribes. In his free time, Stratosphere began to journal. He documented his adventures in writing, recording everything he saw. He developed a passion for poetry, filling pages with verses and rhymes. However, as Stratosphere spent more time outside of the Palace, the more he resented returning home. Home with Peru and Halia, who looked down on him with scorn. Home where he had few friends and nobody to share his passions with. Home where he learned to keep his mouth shut and listen to orders.

When Stratosphere turned seven, he was offered an invitation to attend Jade Mountain Academy. Professors from multiple tribes noticed the young Skywing's work as a messenger and reached out to him. Stratosphere's heart leapt with joy - Jade Mountain Academy! He told his mother the joyous news and was shut down immediately. Nobility belong in the Palace, not mingling with the peasants from other tribes. She burned the letter and ruined many other of Stratosphere's belongings, including a handful of journals that she scolded him for. Poems and little drawings were for dragonets - Stratosphere brought shame to the family.

Jade Mountain Academy

Stratosphere was devastated. He recovered what little remained and took off while Peru and Halia were away. He flew South, heart aching every time he looked back, but he knew he couldn't stay. If he did, Stratos would live the rest of his life trapped in that Palace. Running away was his only option if he really wanted to fly free. After days of exhausting travel, Stratosphere landed at the front doors of Jade Mountain Academy. It took quite a bit of explaining to be recognized, but the young Skywing was accepted into the academy. In the months since, Stratosphere has been happy, although shame and guilt still tugs at his heart. Does his family miss him? Will he ever be able to return? But the Skywing was strong. He was brave, and he would overcome this new challenge. Since becoming a student at Jade Mountain Academy, Stratosphere has made many friends and has learned that life is better outside of that stuffy Palace. Most of all, Stratos has learned that his life has only just begun.
