you admire keith more than you want to admit. the way he's so confident and self-assured, and at his age? why don't you have that too? you're practically polar opposites. even so, he's your cousin-- more like a younger brother, really. you'd do anything to protect him.
oh, alex? he's hilarious. he's wound up tighter than spandex. you love teasing him and pulling pranks-- getting him to lighten up. despite how you may make fun of him though, at the end of the day you know he's got your back. and when things get hard, he's the first person you turn to.
he's a nuisance! not as bad as SOME people, but a nuisance nonetheless. him and his innuendos and flirting and shameless materialism— well. there's more than a bit of difference between your standards, but you know that, despite what he says, he's a good person— and wounded at the core.
you never pry, but you've seen his vulnerability before, in the form of a listless adolescent crouched in the corner of a room, looking not at people but through them. back then, you didn't know what to say, and admittedly you still don't. but you did what you could— asked him his name and offered a distraction.
it's been years since then and he's blossomed into... something. a flower, maybe? but even for all your differences, you cannot deny the biggest change of them all: he's smiling now.
that is all you could ever ask for.
the ever-valiant buttmonkey of the universe. he's adorable. fun to tease. everyone knows it. deep down though, he's one of the few people you feel at ease with. a part of you wishes you could fall for him, really-- it's simply not to be. still, he's one of your close friends, and what he did for you those many years ago back when you were in that adoption center-- you'll never forget it.
it's complicated. there was a time where you thought you loved him, but it was merely infatuation. it's hard for you to love someone who doesn't love himself.
you'd do anything for him. whether or not this is a good thing, only god knows.
// your mother. in most timelines, deceased. she was nothing but good to you even despite the turmoil her marriage was. she supported you in everything -- hell. she was your only friend. there isn't a day that goes by where you don't miss her. it's gotten easier over the years, but there's no one that can replace her in your life.
// your son. the blessing borne from a marriage doomed to fail. he's so much like the man you hate, yet not a fiber of you resents him. in fact, you love him-- you love him so much. you'd do anything for your son-- and in some timelines, you do exactly that. poor alex-- your mother exchanges an eye for an eye for you.
oh. this guy. the bane of your existence. you hate him very, very, very, very much. or at least, that's what you tell yourself-- because, in truth he's probably the closest thing you've got to a best friend (which is kind of sad) and one of the few people you, despite all appearances, trust on some weird, unspoken level you don't understand. for all the complaining you do and all the preconceptions you have about him, you wouldn't hesitate to stand by his side. most of the time, anyway. somewhere deep down underneath all that denial, you probably care a lot more about him than you'd ever let yourself admit.
alt: every time grey shows up alex loses 5 yrs off his life
oh, THIS guy. the crème de la crème of upright and noble. he's got a stick so far up his ass he can probably feel it in his throat. no problem! you'll just yank it out and beat him over the head with it. he's too easy. too polite. too righteous. too virtuous.
stable, though. trustworthy. safe. can't fault him for that.
alt: grey keeps showing up because alex is still there.
it's kinda sad, but aside from one person you refuse to acknowledge as a friend, dami might... actually be the only person you're comfortable with that isn't a) fucking you or b) related to you... he's easy to be around and you have the same interests in canine companions as well as being mutually cursed (or in dami's case, blessed) with a certain individual's presence... either way, he's a good kid. no matter what you think of grey, he must've done something right raising his little brother.
