Umbra Ella

Umbra is a sensitive soul at heart. Full of big emotions, he can at once be a thoughtful listening ear and vocal advocate, while being easily swept away by the crashing wave of new life experiences. He’s characterized by a strong physicality, both in the sense of his impressive strength and his tendency to feel with his whole body. He enjoys throwing himself into martial arts as an outlet for his energy, aiming to cultivate both his patience and his machismo. On the flip side, he’s also rather nerdy, spending an equal amount of free time with his nose in a book. When his mind is made up he’s unafraid to state his opinion directly, even erring on the blunt side at times. Growing up in a remote community he’s susceptible to committing social faux-paus as he tries to gain his footing in the world outside of his island home, Semare.

Semarines lead a unique lifestyle— fully sustained by blessed water known as Caska, they have no need to eat or sleep, resulting in a society that can function at practically all hours. While this arrangement allows the island to create a streamlined import/export business, it also provides the Semarines ample free time. Art making, social bathing, and frequent regattas combine to create an always-on, work hard/play hard atmosphere. Despite his shyness, this lifestyle greatly suited Umbra by allowing him to focus on pursuing his interests in practical combat, exploration, and drawing. When he wasn’t occupied with helping out at his family’s ship repair business, he could often be found scouring imported wares from the mainland, treasuring the rare copy of Fantasy Naruto™. Due to the nature of his upbringing, Umbra has trouble maintaining any sort of reasonable self maintenance schedule, and he's prone to forgetting meals and keeping odd hours.

At his best, Umbra is a down-to-earth presence, making him surprisingly suited to a leadership role amongst his newfound companions, the Night Storms. Practical and non-judgemental he often acts as the voice of reason in a group full of strong personalities. His debut into the wide world was perhaps the push he needed to come out of his shell- just in time to help him and the party tackle the cataclysmic events facing the denizens of Duvestra. Suddenly saddled with great responsibility as a Vessel tasked with unraveling the secrets of these mysterious phenomena, he’s met the challenge in stride. In the face of horrors beyond his comprehension, a wavering faith in the world order, and a bittersweet goodbye to his old life, Umbra remains dedicated to protecting the friends who have shown him acceptance.
