Glacial Onyx was born in the harsh north and spent her early years in the Crystal Empire before moving south for warmer climates. When first setting out she didn't really have a clear goal but found herself constantly drawn to the various mountain ranges that dotted Equestria where she collected many different gems and stones that slowly drew her to her talent. Since settling near Ponyville for a much needed break she's made several friends and has started to sell jewelry and other accessories made from her collection.

She's partially blind, not enough to impede day to day life but on bad days she's more reliant on Ruby to keep her aware of her surroundings. Like most crystal ponies her coat can also reflect her mood, becoming vibrant and sparkling during high points or dull and listless during lower moments.

Glacial Onyx can be a workaholic, whether she's hunting for new gems to add to her collection or just holed up in her house putting together another masterpiece, and once her focus narrows it's nearly impossible to redirect it. In the past this has made maintaining any form of relationship difficult but between Ruby and her new friends she's started trying to find a more healthly balance. She's also kind to a fault, doing anything in her power to help her friends or those in need and once she's made aware of a problem she has to at least try and fix it. Of her friends she gets along best with Chrome Weld because of their shared interest in metalwork.
