Known only by Bat, this vampire has been around for almost three centuries... as if he's really keeping track at all. He's not.

His feeding method has been quite nomadic: He'll stay in his bat form for as long as he pleases, and he'll move from house to house, staying there for a few weeks to months each, it really depends on when he gets tired of their taste of blood. Interactions with his victims is something he'd much rather avoid, so during daytime he just sleeps in their house, hidden as a bat. Staying out of plain sight if he can. On top of shelves, behind counters... wherever there is a lot of dust, nobody will ever find him. He's pretty good at going undetected this way. Passive invisibility powers might also help.

After that, he just up and leaves; he's always been on the move and does not have a permanent place to stay. This is all he knows. This is what he does best. He's very much a creature of habit - In fact, staying in one place for too long often gets him a bit anxious. There are some vague recollections of warnings advising against drinking from the same people for too long, but he can't remember why. He doesn't care about getting to know the humans anyway; he doesn't really see himself as one of them anymore. He's just this bat that needs blood. Sometimes that need for blood may cause death, but eh, he never really thought too hard about it. Mortals die no matter what eventually, it's fiiiine.

This all started changing when that vacant house he was staying in for the night unexpectedly got moved into. And so he accidentally became his new victim's best friend. Maybe having friends isn't that overrated, after all. Who knew...
The dude even named themself Morten, what a fun coincidence! They seem to love all things supernatural. They're also definitely biting their plushie's neck in their sleep,  what an absolute natural.

Bat stayed there for almost a whole year.

However, Bat was still a creature of habit. He'd been getting antsy, having   thoughts of leaving again, like he always does. Getting to the next   house, the next victims. But... something about it felt intensely  wrong,  this time. Like something, or someone, was missing.

Mort. He was missing Mort. How could this-- what's this feeling, he-- impossible.  Bat is a loner, Bat feels no affection! No way. What are you talking  about. This silly wholesome dude meant nothing to him.  Simply a mortal  who will die sometime. Clearly... Being alone again is great. Perfect...  Right?

No. He had made a mistake. He could not leave Mort behind like this. They obviously wanted to be a vampire too, based on all the evidence he'd seen over the year. Right? Vampires are awesome, surely everyone can agree on that.

This won't backfire at all.
BACKGROUND

A  child of pirate lovers fleeing the  system, he was raised by the whole  crew way back in the 1700s. The ship was his house, the sea his home, the crew was his family.

In his first years of life, while everyone else were too busy on deck, they'd have this strange babysitter take care of him. Of course, the man tried his best to hide his true   vampiric nature for a while, but once this child found out, it instantly became too late - his babysitter could turn into a bat?? That is so awesome, he wanted that power so bad. He, too, wanted to shrink into a little flying creature at will, thank you.

But babysitter Einarr only tried to keep the child safe. To stop him from asking more, he simply told him that this was a curse he alone was forced to bear. He could not turn the child. It was... "not possible".

Bat still found out. He overheard from other crew members that vampirism was actually something anyone could get. That you could be turned by a vampire. That the local pale man had a strange vibe, surely he was a vampire. And most importantly, that vampires don't age at all.

Then it was truly too late. Bat wanted to become an immortal bat person... now. Who would ever want to be an adult, anyway? Growing up and being an Adult just didn't seem all that appealing. Clearly everyone around him just grew up against their will, just like he would if he didn't become a vampire now. But no, he had to wait.

Fast forward some years, and Bat was 14 now. Einarr had been taking care of the kid full-time for twelve years. The real parents, and most of the original crew had all gone missing after a severely backfired mission, their fates uncertain. Little Bat didn't mind too much, as he was only two years old when this happened. Einarr honestly expected them all to still be alive somewhere, and had kind of a warped sense of time anyway. He had to keep the child alive... for them. He had made this oath, and he was taking it extremely seriously.

But of course, Bat got in trouble with the local authorities. He's a curious kid, tired of being forbidden from exploring on his own, so one day he somehow managed to sneak out, trying to start his own life. It didn't exactly go as well as planned - Einarr lost track of Bat for a couple of days. and by the time he finally found him again, Bat was getting publicly executed on a dim, overcast day. It was too late.

Or... was it? Maybe there was still time to save him. After so long, this kid had kind of become his son, after all. He also knew how the child really wanted a bite, and though he had definitely disagreed on turning him so early, a bite was really the last resort here. He had to go through with it.

And young Bat was delighted. However, his  powers were faulty, so Einarr advised against using them at all, while failing to provide adequate reasons why. After a few decades, Bat was  tired of  being treated like a baby who still wasn't allowed to do all  the things  he wanted to, so he left. And, well. As he turned while still very young, most of his powers are stuck at this stage where they're rather unfinished, broken, not working exactly as they should.

The worst one is his  ability to erase memories. You know, the safety  precaution he'd take  after draining victims? Well, turns out that doing  this would erase some  of his own memory too, often without him  noticing at all, until he  tries to recall it. Even some rather vital ones. He forgot his  own name. He forgot large chunks of his past. He forgot most people he ever met. What was it like to be a human person? What's it like to have  close bonds with people, again? He forgot.

And as far as he's concerned, it doesn't matter. You can't miss something you genuinely don't remember.

But maybe some things can help him recall.
