"Just take a minute. Breathe. It's gonna be alright."
Dahlia is a twelve year old girl with a strange fearlessness around Pokemon and a knack for attracting any and all trouble within a ten mile radius. She's a bit of an odd Ducklett, with a shaky grasp of social and cultural norms, but she's an odd Ducklett with a heart of gold. If someone needs help, she's quick to listen and even quicker to act - especially if someone's in danger.
Dahlia is rather difficult to get a hold of, as she spends the majority of her time out in the wilds of the Hisui region on various survey expeditions. Strangely enough, there's a weird sort of urgency to her travels...almost as though there's something she's looking for, out there in the wilds. Something she desperately wants - no, NEEDS - to find.

Future's End
In order to stop Cyrus from using Dialga to create a 'world without spirit', which Dahlia still didn't understand, she and Cynthia worked together with their Pokemon to stop Cyrus and free Dialga. And while the Temporal Pokemon was eventually freed from his chains, the battle itself and Cyrus's commands had made time unstable in that area. Pieces of Mt. Coronet were being displaced in time, and when the Red Chains finally snapped, they shattered, sending fragments of crystal shrapnel flying everywhere. Cynthia was lucky enough to be spared, though several of the battling Pokemon were hit, and Cyrus for his part got stabbed twice in the gut. The man staggered back from the impact, vanishing from view as he stepped into a patch of distorted time and abruptly found himself a couple years in the future, where a pair of very nervous International Police agents and a very pissed off Dialga were waiting for him.
As for Dahlia, one (and a very jagged half) of the shards rocketing through the air stabbed into her leg and cut into the skin between her upper ribs. Even worse, she had the same misfortune Cyrus did of collapsing into a temporally distored space - only hers wasn't displaced into the future, but the past. And the cherry on top of this dumpster fire? When Dialga fled it let out one last Roar of Time to not only fix the mess the battlefield had become, but also seal Cyrus into the future for it to deal with at a later time, once it recovered. Unfortunately, in its haste to strand Cyrus in the future, Dialga unintentionally stranded Dahlia in the ancient past. To say Cynthia was pissed about this was an understatement. Looker posted a mandatory watch on Mt. Coronet so they could catch Cyrus and Dahlia whenever they came out, no matter how long it took.
(They just didn't know they were two hundred years too late for Dahlia.)
Arrival in the Past
Dahlia was found unconcious, injured, and feverish on Mt. Coronet by the Galaxy Expedition Team a couple hours after her arrival into the past. They'd made the harrowing climb to investigate the cause of the sudden surge of activity from the rift, and, well. They found it.
Without even so much as a Pokeball on hand, much less Pokemon to defend herself with, she was taken back to Jubilife Village for safety reasons and to treat her wounds. When questioned, the girl was extremely confused, naming towns that didn't exist and frantically searching her person for Pokemon who weren't there. Upon explaining that she'd been attacked by other Pokemon trainers, there was a general uproar in the building to the point where Pesselle kicked everyone out so Dahlia could rest. Needless to say, if Team Galactic ever somehow managed to time travel to this era, to say they wouldn't get a warm welcome would be an understatement.
The village was quick to discover that Dahlia had a knack for Pokemon training, which unbeknownst to them was thanks to her previous experience with her team training with the goal of taking on the Pokemon League and becoming the champion (a useless dream, now, two hundred years before the league and position would even be created). Because of that, Dahlia was given a Pokemon of her own (named Lily, after the flower; always after flowers) and allowed onto the Galaxy Expedition Team. With their support, Dahlia could now scour the Hisui region, and while she was supportive and more than willing to help them put together the first ever pokedex, Dahlia had a more important goal in mind: Celebi. Celebi and Dialga are her only hope of getting back to her proper time, and as Dialga inhabits a seperate dimension from the normal world and she has no idea how Cyrus managed to get to it, Celebi is her best bet. But just because she's determined to look for a way home doesn't mean she can't take the opportunity being here in the past affords her, and get to know the people and pokemon here, just like she did in her travels in the modern era.
Especially since there's Pokemon here that have long since gone extinct by the time she was born. And honestly, who else can say that they met and even became friends with some of the most prominent historical figures of Sinnoh's past?
(Now if she could just stop flinching every time she saw the Galaxy Team's symbol, that would be great.)
Present Time: Obsidian Fieldlands
Studying and observing the Pokemon themselves wasn't too hard - Dahlia was somewhat of an artist, after all, and liked to draw in her spare time. You had to have a keen eye for detail for that, and that skill tended to carry over into a lot of things. As far as catching Pokemon went, while wild Pokemon ACTUALLY ATTACKING humans was a wild, WILD thought to consider, actually catching them was no different than it had been since the start of her Pokemon journey a year ago.
Dahlia, ironically enough, didn't end up expanding her team for a while. Between working on the pokedex, adjusting to the past, and keeping up with Lily's training, she felt like she didn't really have the time or energy to spend on more responsibilities. She had enough on her plate as it was, she didn't need more things stressing her out. What Pokemon she did catch for the dex and village either joined hands with humans or returned to the wild, their choice. Yet another responsiblity of Dahlia's: making sure those Pokemon got safely home. Rei asked her why she wasn't adding more Pokemon to her team if she really had trained up a mighty group of six, but all Dahlia would say about it was that none of them felt right. Pokemon would usually jump at the chance to be human-trained once you'd proven yourself the stronger in either a chase or a battle or both, Dahlia knew that, and said as much. She just...wasn't clicking with any of them. Not right now. Maybe later, but...
She didn't mean to start crying on Rei, admitting that she just wasn't ready to start building up another team, to accept what that reality meant. That her old team, her friends and partners, were gone, forever out of her reach.
She just...wasn't ready.
Lord Kleavor, though. That was a problem. By some miracle of Arceus Dahlia managed to bring him back to his senses mostly unharmed: mostly, because a blow aimed at Dahlia struck the great tree in the center of the arena and sent woodchip shrapnel flying everywhere, a few of which nicked Dahlia across the face. Only three of them scarred, but, well. It was a physical reminder of how close that had been. That and her clothes, honestly - they did not survive the fight as well as she had. At least the clothier was nice enough to give her a discount?
Present Time: Crimson Mirelands
Seeing the Solaceon Ruins again was...weird. It was so much smaller than Dahlia remembered, for one, and oddly empty of Unown at the moment. Though considering the inscription still remained (just how OLD was that thing?), the Pokemon themselves definetly had to be there. Though, she's still not sure why Warden Calaba was so surprised that Dahlia could read Unown letters. It's not like it was hard to learn.
Dahlia's heart about leapt in her mouth when Rei told her of the time-space distortions. Here was a twist in time, a strange occurance that brought Pokemon from places unknown - could it be a way for her to get back? Dare she hope it was?
In the end, no, it wasn't a way to get back. Whatever temporal forces brought Pokemon from the future here - and it definitely was the future, maybe even around her time period, those were freaking PORYGONS right there - they didn't take Dahlia when they swept the displaced Pokemon away as time and space restored itself. But it wasn't just Pokemon she found: there were even items scattered about, from link cables to electirizers to colored shards and more. Dahlia even made a new friend, having found a pokeball on the ground in between running from a Sneasel and throwing a feather ball at the back of a Porygon's head.
(And how far in the future must the little Alolan Vulpix have come from, when her sleek green pokeball looked so modern and futuristic even to Dahlia? It made her uneasy.)
(Maybe it's for the best the things don't sweep her away with them after all.)
Taking the newly named Edelweiss into her care filled an ache in Dahlia's soul. She hadn't asked for it, but...she needed it. It soothed the aching void that her old partners had left behind, and filled a hole Dahlia never realized was there. She'd forgotten how GOOD it felt, to take a Pokemon and raise and train them to be the very best.
Maybe...maybe she was ready, now. To build another team.
Dahlia had gotten better at getting the heck out of the way from the swings of a frenzied Pokemon. And for all that Lady Lilligant was faster than Lord Kleavor, she still moved in a dance: and a dance had a rhythm. It was predictable. And while Dahlia would hardly describe the experience of bringing the Lady of the Ridge back to her senses with the smells of comfort and home as EASY, it at least went better than Lord Kleavor did as far as bodily injury went?
Not that that stopped her from freaking everyone out as soon as the adrenaline wore off and she collapsed onto the ground. Adaman, Calaba, and Arezu pretty much booked it back to the Diamond Settlement with Dahlia so she could rest and they could snag her some new clothes to replace the ones Lady Lilligant had torn up in her frenzy. And if they were in Diamond Clan colors, well, what did you expect?
Thanks to Lord Wyreer deftly scaling the cliffsides, Dahlia was able to cross the river splitting the Crimson Mirelands despite not having a path across or being able to swim (a failing she was starting to despise more and more with every waking moment). While she'd been hunting for Tangela, Dahlia instead quite literally tripped over an even better surprise - a shiny Petilil. And after a scramble to prevent the little Pokemon from getting away before she could catch her, Dahlia now had her third and newest member of her team: Iris.
She was ready, now. And as their trainer, Dahlia would make sure her Pokemon not only knew that they were loved, but that they could take anything the world threw at them, and break it in half. She owed her team no less as a trainer.

Use this box to describe your character's physical appearance. Feel free to expand on anything listed above.
Dahlia is a twelve year old girl with black hair and dark gray eyes. While she prefers the colors pink and gray, she'll wear anything comfy so long as it's practical. Standing at four foot ten, she's yet to hit her teenage growth spurt (and technically her teenage years) and is noticeably much smaller than Rei, the only teenager and formerly the shortest person in the Survey Corps. He's...not too sure how to feel about that.
Design Notes
- Dahlia's got the default dark gray eyes and black hair of the Diamond protagonist, but instead of sticking to the traditional hairstyle wears the Survey Corps bandana instead. It was a gift and it looks nice, why wouldn't she wear it?
- After every noble fight Dahlia gets a wardrobe change, because you cannot tell me you can come out of dealing with THAT without getting your clothes shredded or worse (especially with the young Lord Arcanine, yikes). Plus its a way to show the growth of her team over time, as you can tell when Dahlia caught or evolved Pokemon based on what she's wearing in the photo.

Gym Badges [ item explanation ]
A collection of all the gym badges Dahlia earned in the modern era. Only the beacon badge is missing.
Sketchbook [ item explanation ]
The book Dahlia draws pencil sketches of Pokemon and interesting finds during expeditions in. Drawings of a strange shrine, sometimes accompanied by a Pichu with a tuft of spiky fur on one ear, can be found inside.
Pokedex [ item explanation ]
A large, thick notebook containing all of the information compiled on the Pokemon of the Hisui region. It's one of many copies, and looks a little singed around the edges.
Old Pokedex [ item explanation ]
The small digital machine Professor Rowan gave (read: forced on) Dahlia in the modern era to fill with the records of all the Pokemon she met along her Pokemon journey. Even if it did turn on, it's mostly empty anyway - Dahlia had never really been interested in filling it out.
Poketch [ item explanation ]
It's Dahlia's Poketch. It doesn't seem to work anymore, though...

Met: Jubilife Village
Lily
One of the three strangely colored (read: shiny) starter Pokemon Professor Laventon brought over to Hisui to study, Lily is both Dahlia's (technically second) starter Pokemon and her most willful teammate to date. While normally this would give Lily's trainer a handful, Dahlia is very used to not only taking care of a baby Pokemon, but a baby Legendary to boot. As for how Dahlia managed to wrangle Lily, well. Firm boundaries and positive reinforcement were the way to go here, as well as her secret weapon: poffins. They make for both a great snack and a great after-training reward, and even just the act of making them helps soothe the homesick ache in Dahlia's soul.
Lily does not hesitate to put himself in the line of fire if it means protecting his dear ones, even when said line of fire knocks him flat on his butt. He's been with Dahlia long enough to see that she knows what she's doing, and listens eagerly to any stories she tells of her old team. At this point, Lily's determined to get so strong at Dahlia's side that it won't matter that she can never become the Sinnohan Pokemon Champion - THEY will be champions, and the whole world will know it. Or at least Hisui, at any rate.
Lv. 36
Quirky nature. Somewhat vain.
Met: Space-Time Distortion
Hyacinth
Hyacinth was perhaps Dahlia's most painful catch. Not because of the hunt, but because this duplex Lego, as she affectionately refers to it, clocked her over the head. No, seriously - the little guy spazzed up from behind her while she was panicking looking for whatever sparkled out of the corner of her eye and WHAM. She found it.
Hyacinth is a weird little Lego who enjoys confusing and weirding out the people in the past. Having been swept here as a wild Pokemon, it hasn't had the experience among humans to really know a difference. The wilds aren't much different - it's humans that have grown and changed their world with them. And as for Hyacinth's verdict? Why didn't it get itself caught earlier, human convinences and training are the best. And the poffins! It will gobble up ALL the poffins if Dahlia doesn't keep a strict eye on it. And yes, 'it' - it/its are Hyacinth's preferred pronouns, and anyone who doesn't use them is going to have a very angry block zooming for their head. Which, naturally, some people have had to find out the hard way.
Lv. 41
Naive nature. Likes to run.
Met: Cottonedge Prarie
Iris
The Cottenedge Prairie is one of Dahlia's favorite places in the Crimson Mirelands, second only to the eternally autumnal forests of the Cloudpool Ridge. It was while she was there, admiring the incredibly soft cotton blossoms that she quite literally accidentally tripped over a sleeping Petilil - and a shiny at that. In the split second it took Dahlia to make that realization, the Petilil had already began to flee for the hills, which started a frantic chase to catch the little Pokemon before it disappeared to places unknown. A chase that, much to her relief, Dahlia won.
To say Iris is a dainty Pokemon would be understating things. If there is one thing she likes doing, it's prancing around, whether it be out in the field or in the battlefield itself. She greatly admires the Lady of the Ridge, and rather adorably does her level best to imitate her, which admittedly has resulted in several (embarrasingly adorable) falls and tears, and yet no less drive to succeed. Dahlia can't wait for the day when Iris achieves her dream, and works tirelessly with her in pursuit of that goal - just as tirelessly as she once chased the Petilil through the cotton blossoms.

Edelweiss
When Dahlia was dumped into the past, she thought barring Legendary intervention she would never see the future - her present - again. Turns out, she wasn't entirely correct. Time-space distortions plagued Hisui under the influence of the tear in space-time sitting above Mount Coronet. Distortions that brought items and Pokemon that would never ordinarily be seen in this time period to them, one of which being Edelweiss in her strange Pokeball. While Professor Laventon has dubbed it the 'strange ball', Dahlia can't help but wonder just how far back into the past Edelweiss must have traveled, to have a pokeball so sleek and futuristic-looking even to her.
Edelweiss, once you get past her timid exterior, is a tiny menance. No, seriously - if something is awry, it's probably the Alolan Vulpix's fault. Not that Dahlia blames her for every little thing, but after the fifth prank on Beni it was pretty obvious there was a pattern of behavior here. That being said, Edelweiss is also a sweetheart, more than willing to act as an ice pack if needed (or unneeded, if she feels like cuddling). Edelweiss is also the only team member willing to share her food with strangers, though Dahlia chalks that up to coming from a time period where food was both plentiful and a guarantee, just like herself.

Trivia
- Dahlia does not, in fact, know how to swim. She never learned how. This bites her in the butt later when dumped in the past with rivers and lakes to cross and no helpful infrastructure like routes and bridges to avoid it.
- Unlike the normal protagonist, Dahlia isn't fifteen, she's twelve. Better than the eleven she started her Pokemon journey at, but yeah. Twelve. She's several inches shorter than Rei who is ACTUALLY a teenage boy. The only reason why Cyllene had her work was because she knew Kamado would throw Dahlia out in a heartbeat otherwise, actual small child or not.
- As this is my second playthrough of PLA, I have decided to give the entire village shinies. Except the Buizel guy, because screw shiny hunting that - I don't hate myself THAT much, thank you. I have left it incomplete, though. Just in case.
- So far, the shinies of the village are Beaugene (male Wurmple), Pyrite (female Geodude), and Ceru (male Croagunk).
