Malka Spitzer is the deuteragonist of "The Book of Joel" and a minor character in "Sam in New York."
Cheerful (at least on the surface) and quick-witted, Malka, nicknamed Molly, is quite street smart despite what others may think of her (since some assume she is naïve due to how overly-optimistic she seems on the surface). She is one of Lina and Katya's friends. Out of Lina and Katya, Molly is definitely closer to Katya, being from a similar social class.
She is currently a waitress, but hopes she can be in a film that Sam's directing.
She has a conflicting family life - on one hand, she is very close with her parents, but due to her father's philandering "habits" and his hot-headed nature, she often finds herself butting heads with him. She and her mother have also been impacted by her father's womanizing, having a mistress, and incessant gambling. Accordingly, she struggles with a fear of being abandoned and ignored. </p>
Her family is Galitizianer.
She gets along well with Lina, Sam, and Katya in particular, and is curious about Joel and why he always seems to be more withdrawn than Sam and Frankie when he shows up with the other two at the speakeasy.
