Profile
Clan Aze's contestant in the dominance tournament. Upon reaching the surface, Khordance tries to select the very best contestant he can - by his supposed standards of the tournament, that is - and alights upon a human who's young but big, strong, and very pretty; everything Khordance is after. Of course, Brock ends up being a thousand times harder to manage than Khordance bargained for when his magic Commands are entirely ineffective against Brock's cochlear implants. Having to actually cooperate with his partner, the tournament goes all sorts of sideways for them while they both think they're in charge.
Despite this, Khordance and Brock are a pretty good team when actually fighting other devils. Brock basically forces himself into Khordance's life as a person, rather than an animal for use, and the two of them talk strategy amazingly civilly. Even with their thorny exteriors, both of them can't help but empathize with the other.
It takes a while but eventually it becomes evident that Khordance has a giant crush on Brock. He isn't very aware of it himself until he's teased for getting angry at Brock flirting, but he's been head over heels for him since day one. Khordance struggles with the taboo idea of being in love with a human - an animal, per his society's standards - and it doesn't help his already garbage self-esteem, but eventually, he's coaxed into a relationship with Brock.
Khordance is a tiny ball of rage. He has a temper like a bomb and will screech at anything and everything. He is astoundingly argumentative and stubborn to the point of being a little dense - he has to be right. Though very self-centered and rather narrow-minded, a lot of this behavior developed as personal armor. He's incredibly insecure, especially about his appearance, and puffs himself up with his attitude instead.

devils are a secluded race that lives under the surface. They are split into a little fewer than thirty clans, each with their own territory and differing customs. Every clan tends to have a unique trait, and they all have a unique skin color that only varies minutely among their members.
Long ago, the devils formed a set of rites with humans that can allow them to survive on the surface - devils cannot stand surface conditions for much longer than a few weeks. By forming this magic pact with humans, they can stay and thrive as long as their human lives. The rites have two halves - an agreement, or Contract, which simply requires consent from the human, and then the Binding, when the devil steals the heart of their human and "consumes" it. They assimilate it and gain the heartbeat of their human.
In place of ancient, destructive wars, devil society hosts a tournament every few years to determine clan dominance. A randomly-selected representative from each clan is sent to the surface, and the tournament takes advantage of the binding rites to utilize humans in the battle. The tournament basically involves devils pit-fighting humans. On top of the standard pact, the tournament gives devils a few "Augment" spells based on their magical prowess that they can use on their humans to ready them for battle.
