TERMINOLOGY

[ MAGIC ]

The characteristic energy and power of a living thing. May come in various forms. Due to the varying levels in magical potential, people are sorted into a caste system based on their powers.

  • The more common a magic, the less likely it will be valued
  • The more useful the magic is to society, the more likely it will be valued

[ PSYCHE ]

The totality of being. A full psyche contains both the spirit and the soul, the spirit being the physical essence and the soul being the mental essence.

  • Only humanoid organisms (and debatably creatures) have full psyches.
  • Magic has yet to be identified as individually linked to either the spirit or the soul

[ CREATURE ]

A non-humanoid organism that contains great magical potential. Is sometimes identified to have a full psyche because of it.

  • Common examples include: dogs, cats, crows, cetaceans
  • Rare examples include: dragons, phoenixes, sphinxes, unicorns

[ SPIRIT STAIN ]

Addictive substances that modify the spirit. Generally illegal.

  • Common identifying marks of spirit stains include: discolored hair, blood, and sclera.
  • People who are addicted to spirit stains are known as motleys
