Story being redone

What is this world? Well, let's see. Post (and during) apocalyptic because the world has ended and new life rises; Sci-fi, in a sense, certainly weird, alien, and futuristic; Cosmic horror in ways I will not spoil or explain, except that mysterious cults and unexplained madness are on the rise. It's about some birds. They inherited the earth from these miserable beasts called "humans". They want to leave this place as much as we do, but don't hope to leave in the same way. No, these guys are really going to space!
