I saw your post on your side account mentioning you have difficulty choosing names for your characters and just figured I'd pop in and say I stand in solidarity! I'm good at picking names... but then I'm stuck with eight or nine I can't narrow down. I end up liking them all! If your problem is less about choosing names and more about finding/making them though, a lot of my friends have said I'm pretty good at finding fitting names, so if you ever need suggestions my inbox is open.
I think I have troubles both choosing names and making them up, ahaha. Some characters from stories I write can go years with placeholder names. And if I really focus on a single character and actively try to figure out the perfect name, it's taken me like 2 or 3 months to find something I'm comfortable with. AND THEN THE NAME ISN'T EVEN THAT FANCY (took me 2 months to come up with "Avery Shy").
so, yeah, I struggle with names. ;o; And if I ever use a generator, it's just to get my mind going in the right direction. I don't use the actual names I get in the generators; I have the biggest pet peeve that somebody got the exact name I got (or at least something similar) and is using it somewhere. I do have some characters I've been struggling to name for ages, so maybe I will shoot you a PM sometime. ouo)/ if you don't mind
Depending on the character and the amount of free time I have it can take a few months to name them, but I don't think I've ever had a nameless character for as long as a year! That just goes to show you're very devoted to finding them the perfect names, though. The outcome of the names doesn't have to be fancy or overdone--sometimes it just takes awhile to find the perfect combination. Avery Shy is great. It has nice flow, it suits the character, and it's fun to say. For an outcome you're satisfied with, I don't think two months is too long.
I like to make up names on the fly, but sometimes I'll use generators. I don't use the names from the generators either though, just take inspiration from the formatting or sound and roll with it. I'd be happy to make some suggestions for character names if you ever need any, so again, my inbox is open!
