About
heya, i'm dax, i mainly use toyhouse as a personal storage place for projects that i'm working on, so the majority of my OCs are private, but all of my public OCs are listed here
i don't do adopts, art trades (outside of friends), or anything like that, none of my OCs will ever be for sale/trade so please don't ask lol
all of the codes that i use for my profile and my characters are made by pinky, whilst customising them to my own preferences

reposting my Q&A section from my art blog here, just for ease of access, with an additional section about things pertaining to my characters
please keep in mind that these aren't really "hard" guidelines, i'm not going to get on your ass about most of this stuff or anything, but this does explain my general permissions and preferences with how people handle my work
CHARACTERS
Q. can i ask questions about your OCs?
A. absolutely! i love talking about my OCs and lore, as much as i can currently share anyway
Q. can i draw fanart of your OCs?
A. of course! i'd prefer you check out my character permissions on art fight first, but there's only a couple of things on there, i generally don't care how people draw my OCs, go wild lol
Q. can i draw NSFW fanart of your OCs?
A. go for it, but please read my NSFW blacklist first, as i have a few exceptions
Q. do you do trades or adopts? can i buy any of your OCs?
A.
no, i will never trade nor sell any of my OCs, and i have little to no interest in creating and selling adoptables in the future
Q. who is your sona?
A. i don't have one, as of right now i'm not currently interested in making a sona
Q. so who is the character you use as your avatar across platforms?
A. his name is hershivix and he's one of my oldest and favourite OCs, you can read more about him here
Q. can i call hersh "dax"?
A. please don't, it actually drives me insane when people do this lmfao
Q. i've seen you mention a "comic" you're working on, where can i read it?
A. it's currently not published, but it'll be released when it's ready
Q. what is the comic about?
A. i don't want to give too many details out until it starts to be released, but it's by far my biggest passion project, it's something i'm working on with three other very close friends of mine
HOMESTUCK (i am an elitist autist)
Q. do you have a fanventure for your trolls?
A. i actually do, but it's a huge WIP at the moment so i'm not going to link it anywhere until i get more artwork finished for it
Q. why don't your trolls have grubscars?
A. i've always hated the grubscar headcanon because it's really stupid and makes zero sense with how pupation actually works, like many things in late homestuck/it's spin-offs i don't care if it's "canon", you won't see me drawing them lol
Q. why don't you like people drawing your trolls with the headcanons listed on your AF?
A. i'll be blunt, i just think they're all really stupid and ugly lol, i've never liked 90% of the "weird" troll headcanons like the anthropomorphisation shit, i do like it when people make them look more alien and insectoid, but most of the time they don't
Q. why doesn't artina have psionics?
A. i preferred it when sollux's psionics were treated as something that was very rare, and weren't something that was super common like they are in hiveswap, so in the setting for my trolls i follow the 'original' homestuck canon with them being a rare mutation in goldbloods
Q. what's the story behind zxitey? aren't limebloods extinct?
A. the setting for my trolls takes place in a universe/setting that is completely and utterly separated from hiveswap/homestuck and has nothing to do with them, on zxitey's planet limebloods were never culled and are one of the most common blood types
Q. will you change zxitey's appearance or powers if hiveswap reveals any more information about limebloods?
A. it depends, i won't be changing her design (i am not ever giving her a tail, and i hate how it's "canon" going off fiamet's revealed sprite lol), her powers will probably be subject to change if they are any different from the elemental theory (i'm about 80% sure this has been more-or-less confirmed given the old hiveswap concept art and the extended zodiac symbols though)
WORK
Q. are your commissions open?
A. as of 2023, my commissions are indefinitely closed to the public, please refer to this page on my art blog for more details
Q. how can i contact you for professional freelance business?
A. i'm still open for professional business, but please also refer to this page
Q. you said your commissions are closed, but i still see you uploading new commission work, how come?
A. sometimes whilst my commissions are closed to the public i'll still take a handful of private commissions from friends of mine, these are strictly limited to friends, and i don’t usually take these often
Q. why won’t you draw ______?
A. i have various reasons for these; either i don’t think my skill level is quite there yet, or it’s not the kind of work i'm currently interested in
Q. i still want to support your work, do you have a ko-fi or patreon?
A. i do, you can find my ko-fi here and my patreon here, however, my patreon is closed until sometime in the future, as i currently cannot offer much in terms of rewards
DISTRIBUTION
Q. can i edit your artwork?
A. i'd strongly prefer that you don’t, unless you are a client editing any works that you have specifically commissioned from me
Q. can i use your art as an icon/banner/etc.?
A. yes, but please credit me somewhere if possible, you can link back to my twitter (@Daxite_), artstation, newgrounds, my art tumblr, or my main tumblr, crediting me with either my name (Alexander Hershel / Al Hershel), as Dax, or Daxite is also okay
AA.
please do not use my commission works that contain the OCs belonging to other people, unless the creators themselves are okay with it
Q. can i use your art as a thumbnail/in a music video, etc.?
A. same answers as above
Q. can i repost your art?
A. same answers as above
AA: please do not repost my artwork on any of the following websites; fur affinity, amino, pinterest, weasyl, deviantart, or pixiv
Q. why can’t i repost your art on the websites listed above?
A. whilst art theft happens everywhere online, those websites in particular are very notorious for it, so i’d just prefer not having my art reuploaded there
AA. another reason is because in some cases – such as fur affinity – i don’t really want to be associated with the community there for various reasons, mostly because of my audience differences, i’ve had a lot of people assume that i’m primarily a furry artist before due to a lot of my past commission work containing anthropomorphic characters, who are then disappointed when i start posting my regular works which very rarely tend to contain any anthro content as it’s not something i’m personally interested in, so i’d like to avoid any further confusion if possible
Q. can i make prints/shirts/merchandise/etc. of your art?
A. no
AA. if you're a business partner of mine (either someone who has published my work, or a client), then please contact me specifically about this and i can probably work something out with you
Q. can i use your art in a project (such as a game, animation, etc.)?
A. please contact me specifically about this
Q. can i trace/copy your art?
A. you can use my art as a reference, but please don’t directly copy the art itself or trace it, however if you want to copy/trace my art for your own private references and practice, that’s fine, i’d just prefer you not to post those works publicly
Q.
can i add a content ID/descriptive caption when sharing your work?
A. sure, however i’d prefer you DM it to me with a link to my original post so that i can attach them to the image description/ALT instead if possible
PERSONAL
Q. what tools do you use?
A. i use an inutos pro medium (previously an inutos pro small) and SAI 2 (previously painttool SAI), i also use photoshop CS6 and clip studio paint for additional details and effects
Q. how long have you been drawing?
A. i’ve been drawing for as long as i can remember, but i started wanting to pursue art more seriously from when i was around 10 - 12 years old
Q. are you self-taught?
A. almost entirely, i did study an art & design diploma during college from 2015 - 2017, but the vast majority of my knowledge comes from my own self-studying and practice within my own time since childhood
Q. why don’t you want to pursue art as a career anymore?
A. i plan on always remaining as an independent artist, and my main passion will always be creating my original works, ideally as my own indie career, however i no longer wish to have any involvement with the professional industry itself, this is due to a number of reasons; mostly because i absolutely hate the current state of the art industry, especially the western animation and comic industries, but also because art is something that i do because i love drawing my own characters, concepts, and such for my own enjoyment and fun
CRYPTO/AI
Q. What is your stance on NFTs?
A. personally i don’t really care about NFTs and i think that the reaction to them has been massively overexaggerated, but i don't like the harm that blockchains can cause to the environment and i think that NFTs are pretty dumb and pointless anyway, and most of them are obvious scams and it's very clearly an unsustainable fad that is already dying off, so overall i do not support, nor endorse NFTs
AA.
you absolutely cannot ever use any of my works or projects for NFT usage, i am not interested in partnering for any NFT content, and i never will be
Q. What about AI-generated artwork?
A. mostly the same answer as above, i think the reaction to AI artwork has been somewhat overblown, but AI obviously does still have its risks and absolutely needs regulation as soon as possible, however, i’m not really strictly anti-AI, think that AI has its place as a useful tool and resource, and there are a lot of cool and interesting things that have been generated by AI for fun when not being used for profit, but it should never be something that is used to replace creatives, i strongly disagree with using AI-generated content of any kind for profit or claiming AI content as original work, and all artists should be respected first and foremost when it comes to sourcing for AI
with all that said, i would prefer to not have my works used as sources for AI-generated imagery, but i don’t really care that much
