Decker has major respect for Mania. Although he didn't know all of her history, he admired her strength, and passion for the common interests they share.
He found an unexpected liking to her, and he enjoyed their bond after meeting her through Carmen. Although their relationship never passed sexual status, he viewed her as a dear friend, and would have her back no matter the cost. Decker knew she was of dangerous nature, but he didn't view her that way.
Not much is known about why Boss decided to kill Decker- he doesn't tend to talk about it much. Many speculate that he was incredibly jealous, especially after Carmen decided to open up her relationship to both him and Mania.
As it stands, Boss hates Decker. Even after the murder, he felt no guilt- until Carmen broke up with him. Then he felt incredibly stupid.
Decker never really liked Boss. Although he's never formally been introduced to the guy, Carmen's description of him didn't do any favors. He thought Carmen could do so much better, and that Boss was leading her down a dark and dangerous path.
Although he never mentioned it before his death, he was jealous of her relationship with Boss. She was supposed to be with him, after all.
Carmen really did love Decker. Even though she initiated the break-up; she didn't want to. His perfect world scared her, and she didn't want him losing his path and education because of her. Decker was really good for Carmen, and if things had ended differently, she probably would have been on a better path then she is currently.
The break-up hurt her badly, and his murder even more so. Her memory of Decker is a sad one- and she often finds herself feeling guilty for his death; many times wishing it was herself who had passed rather then her counter-part.
There was absolutely no doubt that Decker loved Carmen. After their relationship abruptly ended, he was devastated, and had to take several months to recover.
They kept their relationship friendly right up until his murder; and he wouldn't have had it another way. He hoped that in his future their sexual relationship would become something more again- even if it never happened, he would have been happy just to be friends with her for the rest of his life.
Although he was aware of her history, he was never afraid of her. He never asked for her to change. Even after they broke up, he understood why, and never blamed her.
Even in death- he never blamed her for what happened.
