Long ago, the land of Miitopia was plagued by the wrath of the Dark Lord. He commanded a massive monster army, and stole people's faces to make them even stronger. One day, a brave hero known as Raiden stood up to the Dark Lord, and challenged him to a duel. With the Dark Lord defeated, Miitopia entered an era of peace once more, although Raiden was never seen again.

500 years later, the Dark Lord became nothing more than a story told to children at bedtime. It was thought Raiden successfully sealed away the Dark Lord forever, and thus there was no need to worry about him returning. Oh how they were all wrong.
