in the verse im working with   steven  and the cgs as a team  dont exist as their canon was  ended and reset , its kinda my version of the tale?  my  AU is the past while i have another story set in  the future , and hybrids were made to make homeworld stronger and to better communicate and make peace with earth , and groups of gems were encouraged to sacrifice themselves to build a new race of hybrid gem/humans... some humans also were modified to become hybrids as well ... as they passed down, a lot of variations and hybrids of even them occurred....
