I have an idea for a species I would like to create. It would probably be closed, although anyone would be free to make one and have it ot officially count as part of the species if they wished. Most species I see seem to be mostly canines or felines with other things attached, and although there's nothing really wrong with this it does make me a little nervous about whether people would be interested in them or not since they do not resemble either of those things.
I also have no experience in species creation and I feel as though I might need quite a bit of help too.

The species (currently unnamed) would be a small rodent-type creature, with some protective armoured areas and tufty fur. Their paws would be very small and weak, and so they would use their very long prehensile tail for most things other than running about. They would have two main subspecies- sedentary and nomadic. The sedentary types would usually be rounder, more peaceful, and have softer and more delicate features. The nomadic types have harsher shapes and more practical traits. 

Apart from their separate subspecies trait pools, the rarity of main species traits would be different for each subspecies. For example, horns extending from the head plate would be common among the nomadic subspecies, but rarer among the sedentary type.
