MISTDEN 🥀
mistden
bleed, wither, bloom
Mistden is a story about a disease, told through the eyes of many different protagonists. The disease, known as The Overgrowth, is slowly taking over. Those who have it change drastically, becoming what is essentially a mirror image of themselves. Happy becomes sad, disinterest becomes obsession, hope becomes despair. There is no known cure, at least, not one that anyone is willing to go through with. Something lurks, but cannot be found.
Deep within Mistden there are two secrets; the Oasis and the Plains; the highest and lowest of points, metophorically.

The Town of Mistden, where many people live, both before and after catching the sickness. Many residents here are just trying to live their lives- be they farmers, ranchers, seamstresses, or cartographers. Mistden is a place that harbors various kinds of creature, and those who live here do their best to help anyone knew accomodate properly- building a home with them, something that they can live in forever. Or... until forever ends. Atop a tall hill, overlooking the town, a scientist works in his lab- desperately researching, desperately searching, desperately creating false cures.
Some homes are empty, now. Silent and dark, they are not open for new residents to take, and instead, are a memory of before.
Something that once was a normal field, then a mistake, then a family.
The Pumpkin Patch is overseen, and loved, by Dadkin, the first of his kind to rise from the soil. Within the dirt here there is love and light, and life. They might not be the most socially acceptable kinds of creatures, but they have each other, regardless. These are a special breed of creation, the pumpkins and the fungus and the experimented serums creating them. Very lovely folk, if you take the time to spend with them.
The Silenced Garden is a village monitored by Fawn and Valon, intent on keeping the disease in check. Fawn cannot cure anyone, nor can she make their symptoms get better, but she's here to help suppress the growth, and trim those who have overgrown, with the help of Barley's suppressant. Among these people, Kirbella and Sorrow also help the inhabitants of the Garden, though Sorrow is typically unsuccessful...
This place is where the story officially begins.
Also known as The Ever-reaching Wilds, or the Forest of Seasons.
A forest where the seasons change rapidly without warning, the Wilds is the home of Glade the forest spirit, and her four cubs. The highest population of the diseased live here, cast out from their homes once their symptoms got too bad. Glade sends those she can off to the Garden, but... a lot of them fight back, won't stay, or don't want to be cured. She does what she can to watch over them, praying that the sickness will pass.
The Isle is a place that resides in the clouds above the Forest of Seasons, it's not much, but it's a home within the treetops. It's ruled over by Naidias, an intimidating, but kind leader. The disease can't spread here, for some reason. Everyone here is free of it, and instead, they prefer trying to help those who are searching for a proper cure.
The Mangrove is a marsh that connects to the side of the Forest of Seasons. It is typically home to the seadwelling population. Mysie rules it by herself, though she muses about a her girlfriend who lives across the water. Mysie is a guardian with immense power, as are all the guardians- though hers is the most 'used'. For the most part, she cares for those who have been left in the Mangrove. The Mangrove has unofficially become a dumping ground for those who are too diseased to keep going. Mysie takes it upon herself to care for them, and also to help them move on once this life has run its course. Though... she never puts anyone in a grave.
The Broken Plains is where the Storybroken go to live out what little life they have left inside them. It is the only place where they can be without corrupting someone else. This is also the home of the Dragon Gods, who are the only ones who can stand being near the storybroken for long periods of time. This place is extremely heavily guarded by the Guardian in charge of it, so its almost impossible for someone else to get inside.
