The Heavenly Qilin ruled over and protected the land in ancient times, until the day they left the mortal realm to ascend back to the heavenly realm and left the land in the care of the lesser qilin. Conflict has arisen and the lesser qilin are divided across the lands, their numbers dwindling over time. The bloodline has grown weaker with their attempts to repopulate, creating a species of milqilin with only vague ties back to the original Heavenly brood. Some lands shun the milqilin and detest their qilin blood which has forsaken them, while others revere them as descendants of the Heavenly Qilin hoping they will bring peace and harmony to the lands once more.
