"I didn't betray my country, my country betrayed me."
Sergio Turchi is an author from Rimini. One day, he receives a blood test so that he can donate blood; he then finds out that he has RH-null blood, the rarest blood type in the world - sometimes dubbed the "golden blood." Less than 50 people on the entire planet are said to have it.
Two days later, the Italian Minister of Defence publicly releases his diagnosis of lung cancer, including the fact that while his cancer is still operable, he will more likely than not require a blood transfusion during the procedure. Not much longer after that, it is revealed that he, too, has RH-null blood.
Being the only other documented Italian citizen with the right blood type, the government was quick to begin a manhunt for Sergio, covering up their actions with endless lies while employing some of the most disturbing and atrocious tactics to get the job done; and they would stop at nothing until they bled him dry.
As Sergio is chased around Europe, making new friends and enemies along the way, he realizes that he may not be the only one suffering at the hands of the government.
This story takes place from autumn of 2019 onward. The pandemic does not happen in this story, but something just as terrifying takes its place.
