Etiquette/TOS:

-I have the right to decline a commission for any reason, which can be as simple as “I wouldn’t enjoy drawing your idea”. If your reference sheet is heavily watermarked, I will decline you unless you can provide an unwatermarked image.

-Payment via paypal, USD. No refunds if I’ve already begun your commission and you have received a WIP. I can send commissions through discord, stash link, or email. I can communicate through notes (FA, TH), or discord. 

-If you are rude or unpleasant I will issue a refund and move on with my life. In that same vein, please be aware that when I’m working for you it is a professional relationship. Commissioning me is not an invitation to chat with me like a friend.

-Do not ask me for updates constantly. I will send them when I have them, or when there are delays I will make sure to inform you. Asking constantly for updates stresses me out and will decrease the quality of your commission, as I enter a mindset where I feel the need to rush and cut corners. 

-Additionally, if you get annoyed seeing an artist make personal art when they owe you a commission, I am not the artist for you. I make a LOT of personal art, because art is my hobby as well as a coping mechanism for me. Doing personal art keeps me refreshed and helps me destress.

-I reserve the right to post and use commission work as examples in the future. If you would like to keep your commission private until a certain date, inform me.

POSSIBLE INQUIRED FEES + DEADLINES (myself and you):

-I am willing to do one (1) total resketch for free. Any more will come with a $15 charge per sketch. Large edits requested past approving a WIP as-is will come with a $5-10 charge depending on how extreme the change.

-I will not accept huge changes to a commission after I’ve finished, or nearly finished it. I will not accept changes that would require much more work after the commission has been paid for, unless you are willing to pay upfront for the extra work it will require.

-I am not willing to work from pictures of clothing as outfit references. A digitally drawn, colored reference is required. Otherwise, you will be charged a $10-20 fee for having to design an outfit for you and match colors.

-You have ONE WEEK (7 days) to reply to a WIP update before I assume the silence to be confirmation of no changes needed and move forward without direct approval. Changes asked for after exceeding my response deadline will be subject to my edit fees (listed above), if edit fees are not paid the art will not be altered on the basis that ample time was provided to begin with to request changes.

-Commissions directly requested to be completed by a specific date that is within less than a month (30 days) from the inquiry will be subject to a RUSH fee. The price of the fee will depend on how close the deadline. Typically I will not accept work with a RUSH deadline of a week or less unless I am extremely confident in my ability to complete it by the specified day.

This is my first time making a review like this so I’m sorry if anything is weird or disjointed! After talking about it some more I figured it was time for me to make a review. I’ll do it as a bulletin instead of service reviews for now.

TLDR: plush is cute, squishy, very soft and a wonderful weight for cuddling. It can stand when sat from a bean-filled rear. There are no bad smells coming from the plush, and after months of sitting on my bed with the usual wear and tear of a plush it is still in great condition. Unfortunately, the way the printed fabric has been cut leaves (truthfully) ugly black markings that are extremely visible on my mostly white character. The plush is sewn with black thread, which is visible, and once again it is unfortunately bad looking and stands out on my very lightly colored character. Communication is very poor. No wips are sent unless you ask.

THE FULL THING:

On November 11th 2021 I contact the maker interested in purchasing a plush. They reply within the day, and the next day they have a concept for me. The plush is $100, and the shipping comes out to be $10, totaling $110 (which I tip on top of but that is not exactly relevant). This is very cheap for a customized plush.

There is no contact until February 26th 2022, in which they contact me about a separate trade. It is completed within the day. There is no contact until May 23rd 2022, where they contact me about a character profile. I have had no updates of any kind about my commission for 6 months at this point.

They contact me July 5th 2022, to inform me my plush is nearly completed. I have seen no WIPs aside from the concept art 8 months prior. I have to ask them for a picture. In the same span of messages, I ask for a shipping estimate because of an eviction scare meaning my family had to move within the next 2 months. They do not answer.

July 22nd I ask for an update. They do not reply until July 24th, they tell me it is almost completed, and finally answer my question about the shipping estimate (17 days later).

It is completed August 3rd 2022, I receive a picture without asking. I receive the plushie August 8th 2022.

Overall, communication is terrible for a product this personalized. I suspect the cheap price point lead to an overwhelming amount of work, and I feel like the quality was sacrificed a bit as a result. I do genuinely love the plushie I received, but I hope that the maker can improve their communication, because as it stands I would not recommend. The wait time is not a problem! It is the complete silence.

Hello. I just want to talk a little about something I’ve kind of noticed, especially in grunge circles and grunge character design circles since that’s where I tend to frequent.

CW: nazism. Pictures of real uniforms used, as such, there is hate symbols. Please read with caution.

So, let’s talk about:

The weird fucking overlap between “emo” design culture and nazism (even if unintentional).

ready? probably not. Let’s go anyways.

First: allow me to introduce a big player. The iron cross.

The iron cross has been used as an award for the bravery of soldiers, but it is primarily and heavily associated with nazism, despite its use in punk-oriented subcultures in the USA as a symbol of rebellion.

Now allow me to introduce a second player:

Dog-whistling. I’ll explain later if you don’t know what this is.

The last, final piece of this puzzle:

Punk subculture. Yes, seriously.

Let me set the stage. You see a design with some crosses on it, a popular symbol in emo circles (especially the upside down variety), a militaristic hat with a laurel around it, an armband, maybe not a red one, but there is red somewhere on the other upper arm, or maybe even the same arm, above or below the band. They have another cross on their chest somewhere, as a pin, maybe. They wear high boots. They wear black. Maybe even their shirt or jacket has many pockets, right around the breast areas.

The character looks punk? Maybe. But more importantly:

The character looks like a nazi.

Maybe not at first glance, but those familiar with the symbols and appearances of the nazi party will surely have their hackles raised. One or two of these things on their own (except armbands), wouldn’t be enough to cause discomfort (stout crosses only when they are not intentionally an iron cross, as well). But all of them together? It paints a frightfully offensive picture, even if it’s not intended to actually be a nazi.

Why does this happen so often? Well, truthfully, antisemitism is a big problem in mainstream punk subculture, usually popularized through blackmetal white supremacist bands. It is also the fault of the normal radicalization pipeline. A young person, typically a cishet white man (though there are many exceptions), is disillusioned with the world, he feels unimportant. He thinks there’s a problem, and he searches to find the solution, why does he feel so worthless, so tired, so unliked? He is groomed into further hatred by his peers, the more offensive he is the more they like him, so he gets more offensive. Eventually it stops being jokes (though hate is never a joke to begin with). There are more of these people than you’d believe there are. Their influence is massive in reducing genuine hatred to ”just a joke”. How many horrible jokes did you tell as a child, that you later realized were offensive and you wished you never said them? That’s what they wish to accomplish. The normalization of hatred, even in children who cannot comprehend it.

So, why punk subculture? Why is it such a problem there?

Punk is about being weird, its about being different. It’s about putting it to the establishment. In their eyes, this is what they are doing. So, punk has a nazi problem. Truthfully, any subculture centered around being “different” will have a nazi problem. Punk just has it worse than others, because common nazi “aesthetics” and punk aesthetics overlap heavily, along with the foundational beliefs of punk. (Put it to the government, take pride in being different, dismantle systems that cause oppression). But as you know, dear viewer, nazis view the root of the problems and their solutions much differently than real punks do.

But... If they’re so different, how did nazi symbols, even if unintentional, get so popular?

Now, allow me to explain dog-whistling.

Dog-whistling is when an ideal is being spread subtly, in a way that is plausibly deniable. Most people will not recognize a dog-whistle, and the people who do will be called crazy for making such a “wild assumption“. The people who agree with the sentiment of the dog-whistle will be emboldened.

Dog-whistling is not always a bad thing, but when used in political discussion it typically describes the subtle and sneaky ways hate permeates into the common brain-space.

So, you’re a nazi in punk subculture. You want to find other nazis. You wear a funnily shaped, stout cross pin on your jacket. You have an 88 patch. “It’s a cross”, “That’s my lucky number”. People not affected by antisemitism are none the wiser, typically. They think it’s cool, sometimes, the jackets you wear, that cool patch, the subtle pops of red, the high boots, that cross. Jewish voices are not listened to, they’re called crazy, they’re told they’re looking at patterns in clouds.

Its just boots. It’s just a cross. It’s just some red on the sleeve, a cool hat, a weird joke here and there. Don’t be so thin-skinned, stop being so paranoid.

This is the way hateful symbols and ideals are normalized. It’s the way nazi visuals live on today, even subtly, even if completely unintentional. You thought that hat was cool, it’s no big deal they’ve got an armband on, crosses are a big part of punk, the red on the other sleeve is just the pop of color this design needs. You see similar designs all the time, it’s not a big deal.

It is a big deal. There is no excuse to be so unaware of hate symbols in this day and age, with hatred rising on the horizon, especially if you dare to call yourself an ally. Intention does not negate impact.

It is not shameful to learn and be better. It is shameful to pretend you don’t know better, especially when it involves something as serious as nazism. Your design might not affect you, it might not affect a good chunk of the people who see it, but those affected by the hatred that those symbols spread will know that they are no longer safe. That you are ignorant to the struggles they face, enough to spread the subtle (or maybe even more overt), imagery of their oppressors. That even if you didn’t mean it, they cannot trust you to stand beside them.

So, your punk oc is accidentally a Nazi. Now what?

Delete it.

-Do not be mean to me/violent toward me or my characters. Don’t tell me to die/that you hate me/that you hate my characters or will crush them or kill them or anything else like that as a joke.

-Do not refer to my ocs as “femboys”.

-Do not contact me over “drama” unless it is SERIOUS. Serious includes: I am associating with someone with repugnant behavior or beliefs, people are using my art or designs (including my bases) to express harmful behavior or repugnant beliefs, the like. If you try to get me involved with meaningless beef because x had a falling out with y over xyz personal reason you will be blocked. Please go outside.

-I block liberally to curate my experience. If I’ve blocked you and you send a friend after me or use an alt account to ask why I will block them too. I do not owe you an explanation of why I’ve blocked you, you are not the main character, get over it. Block evasion will get you reported to both the toyhouse admin and the mods of any communities you came from.

If you care that much, here is a general list of why I block people:

• You annoy me and I don’t like you.
• You don’t follow the rules/tag things properly. (Humans in the furry listings, not tagging gore or nsfw, uploading a bunch of ads as character profiles so I can’t filter them out)
• You spam post and I’m tired of seeing you.
• You actually did something serious.
• You’re a minor who is interacting with minor-blocked content or uploading very suggestive/outright nsfw things. 
• You don’t warn for gore or horror content, or you draw a specific type of simplified face that freaks me out on characters & it’s in their icon.
• Flashing gifs on your profile, typing quirks, or other general visually hostile bullshittery. 
• Unsolicited offering.

General stuff ab my account/byf:

-I type “professionally” most of the time. 

-I am a busy man with a lot of outside responsibilities. If you always expect a response to comments left on my page or characters then please do not comment at all, it’s likely I won’t reply for a while/at all (especially if you left an offer that isn’t what I’m looking for).

-I don’t usually use tone indicators. I would prefer you not use tone indicators when speaking to me unless your tone is legitimately unclear. I find them infantilizing.

-I don’t do pings on my characters. If you ask for a ping you will get your comment deleted, and may be blocked.

YOU CAN:

- Redesign the character as much as you’d like.

- Turn the design into a closed species character (you don’t have to ask. This is your permission, you can send this as permission proof).

- Void my closed species designs from closed species’ (you don’t have to ask for this either. This is your permission).

- Sell the design for its worth (if it has no added art by you/others). If you paid $50 for an adopt by me, and are reselling it with no added art, the worth is $50, etc. I don’t care if you add your own personal art to value on designs made by me, that’s your choice to do that.

- Use the design commercially (merch, comics, etc). I don’t care about this either, once it’s out of my hands then I don’t own it, you do.

- Resell, retrade, regift. You can trade characters you get from me for free, I don’t keep track of all that, but I know some people do so heres your go ahead in case you’re looking for my rules on this.

- Co-own my designs, on the condition that I am NOT involved in any drama that may come of it. If the co-ownership falls apart that is your problem and I will not interfere, so please be smart about who you decide to co-own with.

- Edit my artwork, on the condition you keep the originals for posterity’s sake. I mass delete old artwork about once every year and thus am not responsible for you losing files or editing them and deleting originals.

YOU CANNOT:

- Impose your own trade rules/TOS on my designs. No “notify me if you trade”, no “must give back to me”, no “must wait (x amount) days to trade”, etc etc. The new owner can agree to do the “notify me” thing if they so choose to (like a pinglist), but you do not have the right to impose your TOS onto my designs.

- Make my designs into a public species. Example: you receive a design by me, you take the idea for the design and make a whole public species out of it. Private, personal use, lore species for oc development is okay. Public open/closed species that people other than you will be participating in is not.

- Resell my designs for more than they’re worth with no added art. If you pay $50 for a design, and then turn around and resell it for $100 as is, what the fuck man. What the fuck.

- ^ This includes that you cannot add worth of characters traded for my designs to the value. If you didn’t pay money for it, it’s not added worth. If you trade a character worth $20 for a design by me worth $0, THE DESIGN IS STILL WORTH $0. No money spent = NO added value.

- ^ Vouchering my designs for something above their worth is also not allowed. The voucher must be equal to the worth of the character, meaning characters worth $0 cannot be vouchered.

- Make twins of my designs and then sell/trade them separately. If you make my design a twin, they go together, or the twin gets deleted.

- Delete my designs from toyhouse. Do not sell them to users offsite, any future owners must have a toyhouse for worth logging purposes, and to avoid potential scams.

REGARDING ART IVE MADE FOR CHARACTERS

if I have made artwork for your character/a character you currently own for FREE (personal art I made at the time I owned them is included in this), you are NOT allowed to add the “worth” of that piece to the characters value. The worth of my artwork that you DIDNT pay for is ZERO (0). Under no circumstances am I okay with people using my free art/art trades/old personal artwork as added value. 

EMERGENCY EXCEPTION

In the event of an emergency, you may contact me to ask permission to upsell your design made by me. When approved, you may sell or voucher the character for more than it’s worth (ideally with proof of the exception approval), and the selling price will then be considered the characters value. Just contact me with the design and the price you wish to sell it for, and we’ll go from there. My CS designs are excluded from this, as they must follow the species TOS.
