SYNOPSIS

KINETICISM is centered around an alternate modern world in which there is a recessive gene that gives some people superhuman abilities. These abilities are referred to as “kineses” and their wielders “kinetics”, thus the title. The gimmick is that unlike most superhero stories where powers are pretty “anything goes”, a kinesis will always focus on the manipulation/control of a specific thing. Kineses are widely varied, meaning their abilities and limitations beyond the basics are extremely case-by-case.

The story itself comes in two arcs: Part 1, which focuses on a small group of kinetic college students circa 1999, and Part 2, which takes place 20 years later and follows a larger group of characters. It takes on some aspects of a slice-of-life/human drama story, but the sci-fi elements are very prominent, and it gets progressively more violent and dark as the plot progresses.

KINETICISM’s intent is to explore themes of disability and queerness through the lens of a modern superhero story. It’s written with a relatively mature audience in mind and contains content that, while handled critically, could be triggering.
