i’ll summarize what happened a bit: we struggled on the same jump for nearly 10 mins since he didnt realixe you had to hold A to gain momentum, he ate a brick, he ran from lizards, he found mosquito octopi that he described as “just silly guys”, he killed bats with a spear, and he got killed right before the end of the 2nd-3rd cycle by what i called Post-Apocalyptic Squidward (it disguised itself as a pole and killed him RIGHT in front of a shelter rip)

YEAH the ending honestly caught me so off-guard at first tbh ,,,,,,,,,,, like (obvious major spoilers for hfjone under the spoiler [once again for anybody else who may happen to be reading this])
reading a bit of other people’s interpretations really helped the ending grow on me though. they completely skip the resolution on purpose, it’s up to you the viewer to decide what happens to the characters afterwards. /your/ personal interpretation
the way i thought abt it was like ,,,,,,,,, in real life sometimes we don’t get happy endings. sometimes things end suddenly and unexpectedly (ex. airy, literally any of the contestants’ elimination, bryce being suddenly brought back to the plane). sometimes we don’t get resolutions, it doesn’t always work out like we expect it to in fiction, and that’s okay. in an instant we could lose everything, in an instant we could gain everything (ex. the contestants being suddenly teleported to the plane, airy) and that’s also okay
maybe liam manages to bring the others back to the real world, at the cost of being trapped in that forest area forever. maybe he gets them AND himself out, and somehow resurrects texty. maybe they all stay trapped there forever since liam can’t work the computer without airy. maybe airy is stuck wandering the waiting room for eternity, or maybe he somehow manages to take the radio to the real world. I could go on forever with hypotheticals for endings but the point is that all of these are very possible outcomes for how it could end. it just depends on what you prefer
anyway that was an essay holy shit but tl;dr i like hfjone
the night i finished hfjone i listened to the “around the bend” cover that plays in ep 18 on repeat for like . over 2 hours. i happen to be listening to it as i write this actually. that ending broke me i love it so much

there’s also déjà vu by starrysymphonies, which is about tomato/charlie growing up with only vague recollections of the plane since it happened when he was so young. its a very very good interpretation of how that would affect him as he grows up, and it was also written by the same person who wrote that ii fic abt paintbrush worrying about getting outed to the hotel oj residents in the event of their coming out to lightbulb being aired on tv
external assistance by fridgefreezer is about owen turning to online forums in an attempt to figure out what happened to liam. it’s not quite a chatfic more of a ,,,,,,, forumfic i guess ????????????? it hasn’t been updated in over a year and in the time since it came out, one investigations has released, but it’s still a very very interesting read (and a very unique format)
there’s also you’ve got me on life support by cxlesstial, which iirc is about liam having a nightmare abt the plane after escaping from it with the others. it’s also a poly liam/bryce/amelia fic, and it got me hooked on the ship i think those three are everything to me

IKR THO the way liam’s arms fell to his sides in defeat when charlie got crushed ,,,,,,, like he fully thought he had just failed to save a one-year-old baby from getting crushed by a wooden spike. he didnt know at the time that they could just be respawned. that’s traumatic as fuck and the facial expressions of both him & bryce/amelia/taylor/charlotte capture that perfectly. in taylor’s case, she was just a teenager and she had to witness that shit
the characters’ emotions in hfjone just feel so fucking realistic in general ……….. thats a big reason why i love it so much
p.s. ive already mentioned one investigations but u should 100% watch it when u get the chance, it’s a miniseries about the police (mainly an investigator named ava) trying to investigate the disappearances of liam, bryce, amelia, taylor, & charlotte, which is presented through interviews of people who knew them (aka the people who would’ve been on s3 if uh . ep 18 hadn’t happened)

literally the best thing you can do is just write for yourself, first and foremost. you don’t even need to share anything you write if you don’t want to (but i would be very very happy to beta read for you if you ever need it 👀). do whatever you want and if you post it & other people happen to enjoy it too, then that’s just an after-effect if that makes any sense
that being said, it’s definitely different from writing original fiction, because in og fiction, you are introducing a completely new world & set of characters to the audience. in fanfiction, the audience already knows exactly who these characters are, what this world is, and what they want to see. because of rhat, they’re most likely going to expect that their favorite characters will be actually in-character (unless its a crackfic/the plot demands that a certain character be ooc), whcih can be VERY tricky to pull off. best thing you can do is study the source material if you can, and then just wing it and edit wherever needed. it doesn’t have to be perfect, just good enough that the audience is still able to recognize them as the canon character. it definitely gets easier with experience/more knowledge of the character you’re writing about
as for the writing process itself ………… i’ll talk a teeny bit about mine just so you havw something to go off of, but keep in mind this is not the only way of doing it by any means. work however you want if it means it gets done (remember what i mentioned above about there being no wrong or right way to write fanfiction). if anything you could probably just use this as a reference so you’re not completely in the dark
first off i start with a concept. i mainly write “deleted scenes” of sorts, or scenes that happened off-camera in the source material or just explorations of relationships between characters i like. this could also be an au concept though. it could be literally anything tbh, ranging from “n and uzi talking about anime” to “mephone is a soldier fighting in WW2”. go wild
after that, i start expanding on the concept and planning out scenes, figuring out the setting/where it takes place in canon (if it does take place in canon), etc etc. ex. n and uzi are in her bedroom, post-episode 8. mephone was forcefully enlisted and the contestants don’t exist. (can you tell im making up the plotlines on the fly i dont know what im doing)
how much you want to plan depends on where you lean on the scale of “planner” (aka someone who plans oht every detail of their story before starting) vs. “pantser” (someone who flies on the seat of their pants, they have no plan, they just start writing and see where it takes them). i’m pretty much an in-between, so i give myself /just/ enough to work with that im not completely in the dark, and then when i feel ready, i start writing
then after that, i just ,,,,,,,, start writing. i sit down, turn on fitting music that isn’t /too/ distracting, make sure i have time, and then i try to write everything that comes to my head. i have a habit of going back and fussing over every single line and overthinking and trying to make it “perfect”, but don’t do that. prevent yourself from looking back on your previous work and just focus on the next line. you can worry about editing & making things make sense AFTER you have a finished first draft
after that it’s your choice whether you want to beta read it yourself, have someone else beta it, or just dont beta it at all and just leave it as is. i personally beta mine myself though (ive never had someone else beta it before). i just look through what ive written, work out the issues, and when i feel like it’s good enough, i post it
except i go through this entire process very very very slowly since 1. i am a very slow writer, 2. i have other priorities outside of writing fsnfiction, and 3. i am a perfectionist. the pace at which you write doesnt matter though (ive been trying to remind myself of that), as long as you’re having fun that’s what matters most

its a very infamous ii fanfiction on wattpad that’s basically about test tube going coocoo crazy and unethically experimenting on the other contestants. i cant remember which contestants specifically but theres like, 4 of them. the most famous scene (which is basically what it’s known for) is paintbrush’s death scene, where they get snapped in half
if you’ve ever heard somebody quote the line “The room echoed with a snap”, that’s the scene that it’s from Lmfao. paintbrush’s va actually read out that line recently for a video and it made my heart literally SINK LMFAO
fun fact: experiment 21 was also referenced in paintbrush’s exit interview, where somebody asked them how it feels to be a kitkat or smth and they were like “next time ask something that makes sense, next question” or smth like that. its been a bit since i watched it i cant remember. so even the creators of the show are aware of the fic and find it funny lmfao
