Both of them view Shadowcaster as their mother and master. Everything they have is thanks to her, and they acknowledge that completely. She is someone that they respect. Someone that they love.. and loathe.
They haven't much to say about her, but they do have a tendency to throw her looks of admiration as well as annoyance - the latter given whenever she has her back turned.
Shadowcaster is highly interested in Ruto. To her, he's a perfect specimen, the epitome of the complexity of a dragon's brain. She has many questions: How is it that he has he not died from the parasitism of his colony? Why is it that he doesn't want to get rid of them? Why and when did this obsession start? There's much for her to learn. Given the chance, she'd be more than happy to treat him as her latest pet project. It's very clear that, despite her intrigue, she does not respect Ruto as an equal, and cares little for his health.
"Such a strange fellow.. So strange, and yet, so, so interesting. I've tried to offer him a handful of opportunities, you know. He's yet to accept any of them - he fears me. I'm sure he'll come around sooner or later, though. Whether he likes it or not."
Ruto is frightened by Shadowcaster, and prefers to avoid her whenever possible - which is fortunately very easy, seeing as he seldom leaves his home. He's keenly aware of her morbid intrigue in him and his behavior. Whenever she's around, he can't help but feel terrified.
".. I don't want to talk about her. Please. I-I don't want to think about what she might do, if she found out about my opinions of her.."
Penelope feels.. confused by Ruto, to put it simply. She is disturbed by his obsession and concerned for his wellbeing. Many times, she has been tempted to stop delivering things to Ruto's doorstep, out of fear that his condition could worsen over time. However, it is her job to ensure that an order makes it to where it is supposed to be, on time and in one piece.. And admittedly, she's reluctant to try and solve Ruto's obsession herself.
"It's not that I don't like the guy. He's not a bad person, and I've got a feeling that we might not be all that different. But even then.. something's clearly wrong with him. And I don't know how to help him. I don't even know if I should try to."
Ruto is highly appreciative of Penelope. He claims that he does not have time to find food for his colony - he has expressed fear of what may happen to it if he were to be gone for too long. While he does not completely trust her, he values her perceived generosity.
"She's.. She's wonderful, almost. Without her, the colony wouldn't be as strong as it is now. Perhaps one day, I'll invite her in.."
Tara's acquaintanceship with Gryphon is not well known to the public, even though Gryphon has expressed to others that they're on good terms. In the very least, though, she has a subtle appreciation for his presence, and does not consider him to be unwelcome. He's one of the very few people that she's willing to talk to, even if any conversations they have are brief.
"Usually, only Abyssal bothers to see me, and that tends to be only for the sake of work. It's been a very long time since any dragon has visited this place, for no reason other than company.."
Gryphon openly expresses worry about Tara. Even if she's intimidating and seemingly aloof, he has a feeling that there's a reason behind how she behaves. His empathetic nature has allowed him to make an educated guess that her past may have been a dark one, which could've been what lead her to lock herself away.
"I don't think she's as bad as everyone makes her out to be. She may be frightening, and cold, but.. maybe she feels like she has to be. And the reasons behind her feeling that way.. they're surely justified. Tara wouldn't be how she is if something wasn't wrong."
Shadowcaster regards Stranger with a surprising degree of respect, although she does not appear to think of him as a friend or denmate. She views him as her ever-loyal assistant, and the only dragon that she can depend on.
"He's a decent dragon. Quiet, polite, loyal.. does what he's told, and knows how to stay out of the way. Dare I say, I couldn't have picked a better assistant."
Stranger lacks any open opinions towards Shadowcaster. Despite this, he is absurdly loyal to Shadowcaster, even though her methods of dealing with patients are viewed as cruel and sadistic. There is no confirmation of such, but it is highly suspected by Abyssal that Stranger is a victim of Shadowcaster's malpractice.
