on thursday i sat my last exam, which means i'm now done with my bachelors!! (unless i have to resit, but let's not think about this possibility lol. fingers crossed)
for those of you who don't know, i used to be a maths student with a focus in pure maths! i had to do my third year three times after a traumatic event took place in my life, but i managed to pull through. i'm so glad i stuck with it, and i feel super super proud of myself. it honestly doesn't feel real, but it is! there's actually some really deep neurotic stuff about me owing the completion of the degree to the former host of manyface, so i feel free in a way i haven't felt ever.
before i start jobhunting, i have the month of june to do fuck all (aka make tons and tons of art and frolic about and play video games) and in july, i'm going to go to the states for 3 weeks to see some of my best friends! in august i'll have no money though so the search will have to commence.
my career aspirations have nothing to do with maths, actually: i want to work in mental health peer support, ideally being an operator on a phone helpline. i certainly have the required lived experience for that, ahaha - and my city has a really good one that got me through my degree. i'm honestly really excited to start pursuing this because i think i can help people.
i also feel like now that i'm done, i'll have a healthier relationship with mathematics too? like i want to learn more, i'm just really done with a formal education and university structure. [rips my shirt off] i love number theory and also topology!!! and group theory and surface classification and all these beautiful things. i don't think i'll go for a masters just yet, i need at least a few years off haha.
so many avenues are now open to me... this may be the end of a great revolution, but it marks a new beginning, and i am ready to enjoy my life. here's some art i made about it yesterday!!
we're like a week or two late to this floating around but if anyone wants to draw our ocs or a funny animal or something... hell yeah!
maybe some of you guys know this, maybe some of you don't. but the fact remains that i've been at university for 5 years now (this is my 5th) trying to get the same maths bachelors. i had to suspend twice because i got estranged from my family and was dealing with a great amount of trauma from that, and i feel like this last term is the last chance i have to get everything right.
i've changed a lot as a person over the years - well, manyface got a new host, and that's me! maybe some of you were wondering why i changed my name from ether to jáščer a year and a half ago and the truth is that i'm a whole other person. we're all still getting used to that, really.
part of the change, though, is that i don't have nearly as much passion for maths as the previous host, and i don't know if it will ever come back. still, it would be downright foolish of me to not fiercely seize this chance to graduate. we're nearly at the finish line, and it will be so rewarding and validating to get the degree. if i succeed, i'll be done in june!
one of the things i've promised myself is that i'm going to get a lizard (a leopard gecko!) when i finish my degree. my name, jáščer, means "big lizard" and maybe from my ocs you can tell that i really truly love those animals. so i'm doing this less out of a love of mathematics and much more out of a love of reptiles. but hey, whatever gets me through!
i have no idea what kind of job i'll be getting when i've graduated, but i still have some time to figure that out. i know i don't want to work with numbers, though. one of my ideas is to be a peer support worker at a mental health helpline.
the reason i'm making this bulletin today is because i just enrolled for university! and frankly, i'm just a bundle of nerves. so if you guys could reply with good luck wishes and encouragement to finish this chapter of our lives, i would really appreciate it.

i can draw humans, kemonomimi, closed species, and proooobably flat faced anthros though i'm a bit less confident on the last one. i'll happily draw characters from existing media as well, but i'm not confident drawing real people or anthros with snouts. as an aside, i like to go insane with colours and shading and highlights, so if your character has a very strict colour scheme, this probably isn't the commission for you.
