MASTERLIST OF NATIONS

  MASTERLIST OF NATIONS
~worldbuilding by noramoon and i. work in progress. please do not use these concepts or characters~
RAHAV

Rahav is a land of opulence. Many of the continent’s gold mines are located and extracted from Rahav, and the country’s wealth has attracted many artisans to its markets. Citizens of Rahav enjoy the finest cloth and jewellry in the continent, and decorate themselves as such. Although wealth is not distributed evenly, the love of opulence is found in the poorest of homes. Even the impoverished of Rahav decorate their homes in fake gold, hoping to attract the favour of the dragons that Rahav citizens still believe in. Those dragons have not been seen in years, and were not always benevolent, but were loved and feared. Rahav is presided over by the Apothite of Fortune and Blessings, who fills mountains with gold and grants blessings to those in need.

D'NAHRA

D'nahra is a mysterious land, where the oldest magicks are taught to children in hopes that they will always carry power in their bloodlines. Their most valued cities are nearly inaccessible to outsiders, hidden between deep valleys in rolling hills. They are only accessible via specific channels, many protected with intricate magical seals. D'Nahra is ruled by powerful Saurion oligarchies, families in which the strongest mages are bred and taught. They decorate themselves with runes, tattooing sigils onto their skin in patterns unique to their styles of magic and their predecessors. If these tattoos are exposed, a mage’s level of experience can easily be assessed by other experts. However, those in D'nahra often swath themselves in soft cloaks and ornate layers, protecting their secrets from one another and outsiders who would steal their heritage. D'nahra is presided over by the Apothite of the Abyss who is known for his endless pool of knowledge. He is also known as the Apothite of Time, serving to temper humanity's arrogance by reminding them of their mortality. He offers his most devout followers glimpses of the past and the future, although he forbids any attempts to change what may come. He requires no sacrifices. All things march for him, in the end.

LNOURA Coming soon.
EDREA

Edrea is known for its thick, rich forests. The cities within are woven into the trees; some houses carved into giant towering trees, and some tucked into foliage. It is said that there are thousands of species of creatures within the forest that none have ever seen - none except the Devanas who protect the land. The Devanas are an elf-like creature, taller than any of the other peoples of the realm. They are made even taller by the wooden horns that grow out of their skulls, which are often carved into smooth points or, for some elites, into ornate shapes. Different patterns in their horns have different meanings - some of which are tied to family histories, and some of which are individualistic and personal. They have close ties with the Apothite of the Earth and Clay, who gave her body as a surface on which all things grow and live. Her magic animates every living thing. Because of these ties, their magic has a strong spiritual and emotional component. They are able to harness this power to morph into animals. However, because of its dangerous nature, this has been forbidden. In the past, Devanas have been corrupted by these transformations. The predatory instinct of different animals would linger after Devanas transformed back into their original forms. Sometimes, they just couldn't transform back.  Those who are caught practicing this are considered a danger and are exiled.

MERR

Merr is known as a pacifist nation of fisher-people and farmers. Most of Merr’s cities and villages are built along the coast of the Sapphire Sea, including the capital city surrounding Merr’s ornate palaces. The queen rules Merr and her seven daughters make up the country’s succession line. There are stories that Merr is the ruins of an ancient civilization with close ties to the sea. However, over time, they mingled with the humans who lived on the shores, until their bloodlines were no longer distinct. They are presided over by the Apothite of the Sea, who brings fish to their nets and steers wayward ships. Though many still worship him, his temples are in a state of ruin, raided by the Corsair for the many treasures protected within them. Although a vocal faction of Merr demands that the queen gather an army to protect their land, Merr lacks the resources to become a great power. Throughout Merr’s history, the country has been made safe by trade and diplomacy. That is unlikely to change soon. Lately, though, there are rumours of Merai women coaxing raiding Corsairs to sleep with soft lullabies, and even more unbelievably, that entire Corsar raiding parties have drowned under a haunting melody's influence.

CORSAR

For all intents and purposes, Corsar isn’t its own country. Neither the Council of Kings nor the common people of the mainland treat Corsar as an independent nation, and the 'state' barely has its own name. "Corsar" literally refers to the primary industry that most 'corsairs' practice—piracy. Corsar exists as a threat to those on the coasts of the realm, demanding tributes from the pacifist nation Merr, raiding villages, and providing a constant stream of chaos in an otherwise lawful continent. Corsairs do not trust their neighbors or the kings who rule them. What they do trust is the sword and the swindle. Corsar is vulnerable to regime change at any moment. At any time, a man who believes himself strong enough can challenge the reigning king to a fight to the death. If the king loses, his advisors and army leaders are overturned--replaced with those of the new king’s choosing. Though they do not typically believe in worship, they bow their heads to the Apothite of the Sky, who wields thunder and lightning in her grasp. They are not foolish enough to challenge her.

GLOSSARY
  • Apothite - Otherworldly and very powerful gods of this world. They do not interact directly with those who worship them.
  • Apothite of Fortune and Blessings (Tova) - He fills mountains with gold and grants blessings to those in need. He is widely known as the patron god of artisans.
  • Apothite of the Abyss (Vysos) - He is known for his endless pool of knowledge. He is also known as the Apothite of Time, offering glimpses to past and future. He requires no sacrifices. All things march for him, in the end.
  • Apothite of the Earth (Arofea) - She gave her body as a surface on which all things grow and live. Her magic animates every living thing. The Devanas are her children.
  • Apothite of the Sea (Euclase) - He sweeps food to fishermen's nets and steers wayward ships. He is known as the ancestor of all sea creatures and the god of fertility. He is married to the Apothite of the Sky. The Merai are his children.
  • Apothite of the Sky (Caela) - She wields thunder and lightning in her grasp. She strikes down all those who oppose her and hurls her children of fierce winds at those who challenge her. When feeling generous, she waters meadows and blesses the thirsty with cool water. She keeps the sun from blistering those with no shelter. She replenishes the rivers and creeks that irrigate crops. She is married to the Apothite of the Sea.
  • Saurion - A humanoid species with slitted eyes and cold skin. Their skin tones range to different shades of grey and blue. They decorate themselves in runic tattoos. They live in D’nahra, where they are ruled by powerful mage oligarchies.
  • Merai - A race of sea-dwelling humanoids who live off the coast of Merr. They once lived with Euclase, able to travel between the sea and sand. When they began to co-mindle with humans, their bloodline became muddled. Still, their magic still runs through the veins of their descendants. They are able to use ocean water to heal wounds and sing songs that tug at the minds of strangers.
  • Devana - An elf-like, humanoid race. They believe themselves to be the descendants of the Apothite of the Earth and consider this a grave responsibility.
